Here is another perk for living in the Rathfarnham area: more of mother earth for fresh air and running escapes! I like to run 5 times a week and there are excellent parks to choose from im Dublin. For starters, Bushy Park! Rathfarnham Park isnt too far either and these parks are practically siblings to The Dodder River area. I like to have new spots in mind for mixing up running routes and having nice scenery(why go to the gym when you can run outside, lads?!). The area is clean and looked after(thanks tidy neighbours!), but sure always needs help being looked after. Friendly enough spot to visit!

Gosh I thought I would be the first to review! Took the dog for a walk along the Dodder in Ballsbridge I could tell the water was clean as you could see to the bottom but around the area it is filthy with rubbish and junk. Is this a case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ it is a nice walk but it needs a good scrub. Nice to see the ducks and moor hen though.

Originating in the Wicklow mountains, the River Dodder flows through Tallaght, Rathgar, Donnybrook, and Ballsbridge, becoming Dublin’s second largest river before entering Grand Canal Dock in Ringsend where it meets with the River Liffey. Along the course of the Dodder are some beautiful parks and walk ways, including Bushy Park in Terenure, Herbert Park in Ballsbridge and the parkland between Milltown and Clonskeagh. A walk along the Dodder at any of these places gives a real sense of a slice of countryside in the middle of Dublin.

The Dodder that flows through Rathfarnham and the Dodder Valley Park and Bushy Park is really clean do to the seasonal clean up the local areas and neighbourhoods have. In summer at the stepping stones in Bushy Park you can fish and swim and have a great time with out really having to worry about swimming in to a shopping trolley or plastic bag!

Maybe not as easy on the eye as the Grand Canal but, believe me, much much cleaner. So much cleaner in fact that you’re allowed fish in it. You can pick up Brown Trout and Sea Trout between March and September from specific locations along the river. Unlike the Liffey or Canal, the Dodder goes dry in places during the summer and floods in others during the Winter.
