As a patron of Tower Records in NYC for many years during the 1990s — 200s, I was devasted when they closed their doors. I contributed to the Kickstarter fund for the Colin Hanks produced documentary on the rise & fall of Tower Records that’s currently in theaters. So, it was with great pleasure to learn that on a recent visit to Dublin, I’d be able to shop at an independent Tower Records & re-live a bit of my youth. Tower has always had it over other music shops & their Dublin location is no exception. There’s something special about their selection, arrangement & knowledge of its staff that other stores just generally don’t have. This location is a short walk from large scale tourist attractions like Trinity College, The National Library & a couple of other places. It’s definitely worth a look inside. Look beyond the recent releases wall for something more intriguing. Chances are you’ll find it here.

Unbelievable selection of Records, Books, Dvds and Popular Rock Group Apparell. I used to spend a lot more time here before the advent of torrents but I still like to go in occasionally and browse for cds. You can often find classic albums or obscure albums from popular bands for good prices. Not as cheap as HMV but their selection is derived from good taste so you’ll sifting through a lot less garbage. They always have great music dvds, comedy box sets and are usually playing a badass album in store as you browse. The staff are passionate and intelligent and they sometimes hold events like Fionn Regan, Fall Out Boy and random Irish bands that have just had one of their songs featured on an ad for something

Shopping here increases your level of cool by a good 10 points. When I first started shopping In Tower Records aged 12/13, then on Wicklow Street, it was probably the first time that I encountered really«Cool» people. I was so intimated by the staff who all had crazy hair, piercings and tattoos. Now 20 years on they are in their new home on Dawson Street and I am equally as intimidated by the incredibly cool staff with their crazy hair, piercings and tattoos. But seriously if you want a really good collection of music, books, movies and all sorts of cool stuff this is your place. The café is also really cool and very good value.

The collection of DVDs and BluRays they have here is INSANE. It´s a place of pure, beautiful madness. God bless them.

This is my meeting point whenever I am in town. First, because I am a music lover and I am always searching for alternative bands and in Tower Records I can always find something different there. However, what I really love is their café. I love the vintage decoration with album posters on the wall, the chairs and sofa that remind of the 70’s and 80’s, the café food with vegan, vegetarian cakes. I just could sit there the whole afternoon reading a book, drinking coffee and eating their delicious polenta cake with orange.
