Whiskey Wednesday At Fallons

Great night with great hosts. Perfect introduction to whiskey with loads of samples and good prizes, shame not to win any but good night and a brilliant pub off the beaten track. Will definitely be back to fallons again.

What an absolutely great night!
I’ve never been into Fallons before so didn’t know what to expect. I was really surprised. It’s probably one of the last of its kind. It’s an old school pub. You know, the type where you actually have to talk to other humans! No music, no TV, just good company. Which is fitting of the them for the night, Tullamore Dew whiskey tasting.
Tullamore have a cool ethos about whiskey and its that there is no one way to drink a whiskey, have it how you like to drink it, the key ingredient is the company your with, the crack, the laughs.
So we tried the standard Tullamore Dew with Cidona, a really nice drink and if you’re not sure about whiskey then this will suit you. Next up was the whiskey on its own. Which I really like. After that and a great run down on the history of the local area (hecklers too) we tried the top shelf stuff. The limited edition Phoenix. At 55% this is a strong whiskey but it’s so god damn good! Very different to the other whiskeys we tried.

So a Vicar a Dub and Cork lad are in a bar. An entertaining night even without those lads, a great history lesson from the Conor on the Pub and Kevin, the resilient and patient Tullamore Whiskey aficionado gave us an insight to the whiskey itself, its beginning and its journey to where it is now.
The setting and company really made this evening and I left with one or two whiskey anecdotes, a taste for Tullamore and the possibility of ordering a cidona to accompany my next drink…

So I went along to the Unilocal Whiskey tasting event and from what I remember, it was great. Unlike other drink tasting events, Tullamore was more than generous with their samples, leaving me with blurry recollections of a vicar, the fact that it takes longer to become a whiskey distiller than a doctor and that whiskey has at least 40% alcohol content. Ye (l)p, I can vouch for that.
Overall, a really interesting and fun event in the lovely settings of Fallons pub, one of my favourites for a nice quiet drink and a chat.

Amazing night!
Got to try several whiskeys and get a better understanding and the history and background behind them.
I would definitely do this again.
