Great food! And great Guinness, according to my Irish husband. It’s also at a pretty location on the canal. Staff is very friendly. What more can I say, other than to highly recommend a visit. (They were also featured by Pub Spy /Sunday World a few years ago, who also had nothing but nice things to say, so you can’t go wrong!)

If traditional Irish pubs are your thing you will love Fureys. What looks like a small cottage on the outside is far bigger on the inside and is full of knick knacks, brick a brac and oddly a lot of baseball caps. Even though Furey’s don’t have a website(we had to take a punt on what the menu would contain) and they are tucked down a blink and you’ll miss it side road they were very busy. It seems all the locals don’t need technology to find this gem. The food is typical pub grub, soup, sambos, steaks, served with man sized chips(they are huge). Grab something while you are sat heating up beside one of the pubs cosy fireplaces. The staff couldn’t have been friendlier and talked like they had known us for years. If you happen to own a boat you can park beside this pub as its sat on the royal canal. Or if like most of us you arrived in a car thankfully they have a large car park too.

Even though its miles away, came here simply because I heard nothing but great things about it! I can now state that this was somewhat of an understatement. This place is beyond amazing! The place itself is cozy on the inside, like an old house that has been converted. Benches, pillows, a fireplace. Bar in the middle, and old memorabilia on the walls, not to mention Garth Brooks playing in the background. This has the potential to very quickly become my local, if I was, well, local… When we got here it was already a little busy, but we got looked after straight away. We wanted to sit outside, there was no hassle. When we changed our minds and wanted to sit inside, there was also no hassle. All in all great customer service throughout. Friendly and courteous! Now, the food, it was sensational. Fresh and well prepared. I had wings to start and steak for a main. Both were great, appetising, and filling. Wings came I’m a spicy sauce, just the right amount of spicy, and there was somewhat of crispness to the wings too. You could instantly tell it was fresh chicken, the meat just fell away from the bones. The steak was one of the best I’ve had here in Ireland, tender, juicy and thick, just like a steak should be. Keep in mind, I get mine well done, this was the perfect amount of well done! It was served with a side of fried mushroom and onion that added a delicious texture to the steak, there was also of course pepper sauce, and a plate of thick, home cooked chips that were also a wonderful addition to the meal. We drove all the way from Dublin just to try the steaks and to be perfectly honest, knowing how great they are, I would travel from even further! Go, have some home made comfort food, and spread the word!
