Lovely ruin worth checking out in Ennis. It’s in a central location in the town, so you can’t miss it. As with all OPW properties, prices are cheap and worth paying to see this 13th century building. Guided tours are available from expert staff, but the boards and posters cover all the relevant information, and I enjoyed going around at my own pace. Much of the information is located under a roof, so you can go on wet days, but of course some of the ruin stretches outside as well, and I enjoy just admiring the antiquity of it all. Recommended.

The Friary is easy to find in the center of town. It’s a great place to take some arty pictures and if it happens to be raining which it often is in Ireland even better! Shoot some with the edge of stone windows in the frame and you’ll look like a professional. It’s tough to mess this one up. I thought the town of Ennis was completely charming. I ended up there by chance and wished that I had more time to explore. I’ll be back!

The Ennis Friary is a 13th century Franciscan friary that still stands today in Ennis, Co. Clare. In fact, the whole town was originally built around the friary, which even today is in the heart of the town. A sight you have to see to appreciate, it is yet another great reason to visit Co. Clare.
