I found this place pretty average at best. The food was ok, I had the falafel burger but I’ve had much much better falafel elsewhere. The ones here had hardly any taste at all, was way to crumbly and overcooked, and the hummus that came with it was kind of hard as opposed to smooth. I felt that restaurant lacked authenticity when it comes to actual Mexican food, and I found the food too oily for my liking, even the vegetable side dishes. The sweet potato fries were not too great and I expected better; too limp, soggy-like and greasy compared to what I’ve had at other restaurants. It very much felt like pricy fast food as opposed to real proper restaurant food. The service was very slow, they forgot one of our orders, did not have any herbal teas except green tea(not even earl grey or peppermint which I find almost all restaurants have) and they did not let us pay separately which made be reduce the stars from a 3 to a 2. Also, I think that the staff could be a bit more attentive to customers. The dessert menu was also quite small. The good points were that the atmosphere was pretty lively, the place seemed clean and the prices were not too bad but didn’t really justify the poor quality of food. However, the menu had a variety of options and did cater a small but for vegetarians with dishes like falafel, potato based tapas and salads.

We went here a year ago and I’m just getting around to thanking them on Unilocal. As an American Tourist visiting Ireland, I needed a change of pace after trying my hardest to eat«authentic» Irish food for a week. Cactus Jacks to the rescue. This isn’t dive-y Mexican-American food served with grease and a touch of soul. This is Mexican food treated with respect and served with class. The tacos were artisan and pridefully made with the appropriate amount of garnish. The service was impeccable and the ambiance refreshingly modern. Somewhat regrettably, Cactus Jacks is THE recommendation I make when friends are visiting Galway. When searching for a restaurant, sometimes food trumps geography.

I had one good experience in this place and I visited since then and it was a complete let down. The food is nice, potato skin starters and the fajita’s are good. I felt very rushed in here like they just wanted to get us out the door as quick as they could. I don’t really understand the kind of person this place is suited for. La salsa has more Mexican authenticity than Cactus Jacks. Consider your decision.

AWESOME restaurant! This is a must! Everything we had was very tasty, highly recommend getting the crispy bacon & cheese patata. I wish we would have found this place earlier, we would have gone back to try more things on the menu.

Catered well for the vegetarians in our group — lots of veg in their meals! One of us had a burger which was very tasty. The guacamole is pretty terrible, especially considering how easy it is to make! The rice that came on the side of one of the dishes was plain & tasteless. Nice enough atmosphere & it made a nice change to going to an Indian or Italian restaurant. I wouldn’t rule out going back. It is, however, Tex Mix, not Mexican food.

it was accomodating and the server was very nice but the guacomole was not good. The paella was fine if undistinguished, and the fajitas were just ok as well. Better for hen parties and drinking.

Cactus Jacks is only marginally better than La Salsa for«Mexican» food. I believe they advertise their food as Tex-Mex but this could not be further from the truth. The food is nearly tasteless and the salsa is not at all spicy. The tortilla chips and salsa were around € 4, that is outrageous considering most Chips and Salsa in any REAL Mexican restaurant would be complimentary. This seems to be the trend in Ireland that NOTHING is free. My wife ordered a Margarita and I believe it was around € 10, again, outrageously priced especially since there was such a small amount of tequila that we wondered if there was any in it at all. I realise this is Ireland(i.e. known for tasteless food and high prices), but come on, as I’ve written about La Salsa: change your recipes or don’t advertise that you are«Mexican» or «Tex-Mex.»
