This was the best dinner I’ve had in a long long time. We went with the specials and recommended appetizers. The prawns were amazing! They were on top of a tossed salad with garlic bread. The breaded squid was extremely fresh and melted in your mouth. The brill came with mussels and mashed potatoes — loved every bite!

Fantastic place. Got to say one of my favourite meals of all time. Really great fish dishes and large quantities. Lovely atmosphere for a long relaxed dinner too. Highly recommend.

Avec des spécialités de poissons de très bonnes factures. La carte est bien élaborée, mais les«catch of the day» est vraiment top. À recommander pour un repas dans un très joli cadre.

This is a 5 star seafood place. Venue is plain. Prices for wine and fish are reasonable. Six(6) species of seafood on their catch of the day list! Plus two more on the printed menu. I loved my lemon sole with samphire, which I learned was like asparagus. Both were wonderful. My wife had cod with purslane, which we learned is like watercress. Loved the mixed green vegetable dish they served with our entrees. Friendly and knowledgeable service– patient and helpful. We’ve been to fancier seafood eateries, but never with such choice, executed flawlessly.

The mussels will put you in a cream coma(in a good way). Add a spritz of lemon and a little coaxing with a fork, and the mussels are tender, meaty and happy to swim in a spoon full of cream. The staff was incredibly sweet and attentive. Many people in there were international visitors such as ourselves, and the close proximity of the tables allowed for polite conversation about past and future travels. As luck would have it, the couple next to us were also from North Carolina and assured us we would not crash our rental car on an Irish highway.(If you see me post a Unilocal review after this one, we did indeed make it off the roads alive.) Oscars offers a great menu for early birds who get dinner before 7:30pm: 2 courses for one person for $ 18.50. My husband had the oysters to start, chilled to perfection and naturally salty. They were presented beautifully and were huge. His main course was the natural chicken served atop mashed potatoes and pesto. I tried a bite and it was some of the freshest pesto I’ve ever had, and I’ve made pesto before from our own basil plants. Besides my main course, the mussels, I had the fish cakes, which were light and not overpoweringly fishy. They were breaded in a delicious oatmeal breading. The atmosphere was cute, with lit candles, old cookbooks and photos of fish dishes on the walls. The circusy-tent billows of fabric on the ceiling were interesting.

The food here was good, and came with a lot of greens! Of the two entrées, the salmon was the less successful. It was a decent piece of fish, but the dish could have used a little more interesting flavors. The monkfish special was better. It can with spicy chorizo and pesto, which went great with the fish and was very tasty. Both entrees came served over mashed potatoes; grains might have worked better, as the potatoes made the dishes feel rather heavy. We also got a bowl of greens — bok choy, broccoli, peas, cabbage, kale, scallions, leeks — tossed in butter, and salt — way too much salt! The décor, with the swooping cloth ceiling was a little odd and can definitely use a refresh. So can the red wine list, although the bottle of Rioja was OK. The pinot noir from Chile was not a good representative of the style. The staff was very friendly. It’s also touristy — I don’t think anyone in the restaurant was from Galway, or even from Ireland.

This was by far the best meal I have probably ever had. My friend and I are still talking about it! We had the fried squid and octopus first. She had the Aran cod and I had the mussels. Everything was cooked so well and the staff was incredibly nice and friendly. We ended the night with a trio of crème brûlée and were so full and so happy.

This was the highlight of my trip to Galway definitely! Great food, nice wine selection, good service and atmosphere in a lovely setting. My favourite course was my dessert of assorted crème brûlée. Kinda pricey but worth it. This should be on your list if visiting here.

Very decent seafood, really quite good but the prices a a bit high. Few choices for seafood in Galway, but this remains one of the best.

What happened to Oscars? They used to have the most amazing presentation, no longer. The food is mediocre now and the prices have gone up. Anyone coming to galway used to always get a recommendation from me, sadly no longer.

I had read some good reviews on this place and when it was confirmed by the lady at our B &B, we decided to go. We had no reservations(I suggest one) and initially the gentleman said they had no seating, but after my joking pouting and teasing, found a tiny table in the corner, which we were grateful for. The ambiance was very nice and romantic. The seafood roll, chowder, seafood sampler and Hake were AMAZING!!! Everything was cooked fresh and tasted fresh. The service, although they were short handed, was amazing and friendly. They did have to turn a lot of people away, so we were just so happy to have been able to get a table.

Oscars has a great deal for dining during the week where I had a large plate of mussels and spring rolls for 15 euros. They also have other 2 course options for 15 euros during the week for dinner. We loved their drink menu since they had good wine, great Irish whiskey, and IPA. The calamari was awesome and our favorite. My friend got the steak which was chewy and I would recommend sticking with their seafood. The mussels and mashed potatoes were very good. Spring rolls were ok. Service was very good. Make reservations since this place gets very busy.

IMDROOLINGJUSTWRITINGTHISREVIEW! So good. Had the lobster and was so sad when I was done. The service was great! The waiter kept his composure even when he saw me licking butter off the lobster shell(the wine was good too).

«No Complaints and well deserved spot on TA and Unilocal» Anyone that can make humble ray into a tasty main knows what they are doing. From our cava to wonderful sushi starter and divine desert this was a lovely meal in nice spacious surroundings. A fitting end to our stay in Galway. The waitresses were lovely and genuine. Highlight sushi of the day and the ray oh and thr crème brule

One of the best meals I’ve had. And I went back a second time for the same meal — Coconut shrimp is to die for. The second time unfortunately, they had no pomogranate seeds, which I really missed from the first time. Delicious food. Great, friendly staff. Love the décor. A little pricey though

Walked in right at 6 without a reservation. They sat us after checking to make sure. The fish of the day menu is a great touch to the general menu. We are an American family(all adults) traveling. We all tell the shimp, hake, fish of the day and chips, mussels and scallops plate. All were DELICIOUS. The service was impeccable and the beer and wine list(as well as pre– and post– dinner cocktails) is great. You will MOSTLIKELY need a reservation. Most people who cam after us were turned away because there was no room. Dishes were around € 25. Highly recommended to seafood lovers while in Galway.

Excellent! Don’t be put off the the general seediness of some of the accompanying places on this street — it’s just a street that has everything from craft beer bars to strip clubs to fast food joints. It’s called«atmosphere» :-) Instead, just put the head down and head straight here fi you want good seafood and modest enough prices. Fresh oysters, beautifully cooked fish, all in a nice, cosy restaurant where the focus is on the quality of the fish. There’s a printed menu, but as far as I can tell, it’s all about the specials that are written on the chalkboards sitting on each table. Always a good sign that they run out of things due to demand(a sign it’s fresh and they have limited stock of it) — but there’s plenty to choose from. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be back.

The seafood chowder was awesome! So full of seafood and a great taste. I had one of the many catches of the day… A duo of cod and turbot. Very tasty.

I wish there were 6 stars because this place is AMAZING! It’s not in the heart of where the pubs/night life is, but that doesn’t matter because the food makes up for it!(It’s also literally a 3 minute walk, so it’s not far from the pubs at all.) It’s a small restaurant, so I recommend making reservations ahead of time. They offer a selection of fresh catches in addition to their regular menu. We ordered the Seafood Tasting Platter, the 1KG mussels and the coconut shrimp with Japanese noodles — we shared everything and couldn’t finish it all! The food was beyond delicious. From the seaweed bread to the sauces that came with each dish, it was one of the best seafood meals I’ve had(and I come from New England!). The service was also very excellent. Our server made great recommendations and helped with wine/beer pairings. Oh, and if you like local craft beers — they have an awesome selection. All in all, a definite MUST visit when in Galway.

Oscars is an excellent seafood restaurant in Galway. Their prix fixe menu can’t be beat and is a tremendous value. They serve unique and under-fished seafood. I love trying new things and gave the Sweaty Betty a go — it was delicious. I ate there twice and the service was great both times. I highly recommend if you’re in the mood for seafood.

If you’re looking for fresh, creatively prepared seafood in a charming bistro setting at reasonable prices, Oscars is your answer in Galway. The scene is 1920s Paris glam, with some French jazz music pumped in tastefully to complement the artsy bright-colored interior. Think Midnight in Paris: billowing fabric flowing over the ceiling, metalworks candeholders and shabby chic wooden furniture. We walked in and I liked it already. Our waitress was very friendly and advised us appropriately when we inquired about portion sizes. There is a printed menu, but the real gems are carefully chalked onto a board that is set up next to you once you sit down. I really enjoyed this manner of maintaining practicality without sacrificing the casual upscale atmosphere; sometimes it can be a real pain when a restaurant write specials on one chalkboard not visible to the entire dining room! We started with some oysters and the seafood croquettes. Both were fantastic. Very fresh with wonderful complements of flavors. Our main(which we split) was a scallop and mussel medley: succulent, fresh and flavorful. I loved the white wine sauce that accompanied the mussels, as it was a subtle fusion of savory, bitter and creamy all at once. We split a half bottle of wine and finished with a fabulous chocolate pudding dessert. When we arrived in Galway we were looking for some seafood in a trendy atmosphere and wanted something a little different to the classic pub scene we’d been juggling for a few days. Oscars was the perfect solution. Enjoy!
