My go to take away in the Clontarf area. Can not order online… old fashioned phone in job… its not fancy… just basic greasy tasty take away but sometimes that’s all you want with your bottle of pinot on a Friday evening!!! It does a roaring trade so others definitely agree.

The Regent is my go-to Chinese takeout. Nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned spicy, greasy Chinese food. It’s exactly what one expects, and it fulfils its purpose perfectly. Meals are well sized, enough to comfortably fill a grown man on their own, and it’s not overpriced. The menu has a wide selection, as do most Chinese takeaways, and the delivery times are respectable enough outside of the Friday/Saturday peak times. All in all, it’s a great little place. It doesn’t do anything special, but I don’t particularly want my local takeaway to be too fancy. It’s reliable, cheap, and cheerful.

Cathal calls this place ‘pseudo-Chinese’ and I couldn’t agree more. This stuff does not appear to be the real deal and it does not taste better the next day(as takeaways often do). I was distinctly unimpressed with my sweet and sour pork and spring rolls. Or should i say, spring roll. Instead of the usual cocktail-sized spring rolls, I was presented with one huge, fat roll, almost the size of a coke can. It was not attractive, or tasty, for that matter. Cathal is on the money with the chips in Chinese takeaways — there is a distinctly fishy MSG flavour about them, and I often question the cooking techniques applied here. It’s obvious that they are thrown in the deep fryer with all matter of dim sum, spring rolls and deep fried matter. Yuck!

The Regent in Killester was my first ever acquaintance with the pseudo-Chinese food that takeaways in Ireland sell. I’m not using this as a pejorative term; but a 3 in 1 is clearly not Oriental in origin. Every month or so when we were small, we’d get a take-away from the Regent. Spare ribs, chicken balls, chips and white rice, all the nicer because normal rules of decorum were suspended and you were allowed eat with your fingers. Happy times. The food listed above is not just a reflection of my family’s cultural ignorance and undeveloped palates, but is also indicative of the type of fare that the Regent specialise in. Steak and black bean sauce is about as authentic as the Regent gets. But again, that’s not to slight the establishment. If you(like me) go to the Chinese only looking for a 3 in 1 or Special Fried Rice if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, then the Regent will cater perfectly to your needs. One thing though: the chips have that unwholesome, flavourless Chinese restaurant quality about them that I find most orders of plain chips bought in a Chinese have. Anyone else ever notice that? Other than that, pretty alright.

This has to be the nicest chipper in Ireland! The food is delicious. They have the nicest chips ever. The staff are very friendly. They now open some days for lunchtime hours as well Tue — Fri. The prices are reasonable. The menu is quite varied as well. There is also parking spaces right outside. Its beside bus stops and the dart. The service is always quick and professional. They also give massive bags of chips too! The only problem with this take away is that it closes on a Monday!

Regent Chinese Take Away is fast, reliable and above all offers great Chinese food at reasonable prices. Usually my partner and I get two meals out of an order as the portions are quite large. The Regent Chinese Take Away store does not have seats or much room for waiting so it is best to place a telephone order and delivery charges are not too steep. Excellant Chinese food.
