As I parked up in the seemingly always full car park for Sunday lunch my wife reminded me that we had her 21st birthday meal here, a very, very long time ago and the waitress spilt soup down my shirt. I had forgotten much of the event but when reminded I did recall some of the fuss. Anyway our memory was of a fond place with great food and friendly staff. Guess what despite the passing of at least a generation it hasn’t changed. It’s still great food, properly cooked and genuinely friendly staff. I had a perfectly good chicken liver pâté with thin crisp-bread, a fresh pineapple chutney and side salad with two absolutely scrummy wheaten scones and two soft bread rolls on the side(€ 4.5) and my wife had egg mayonnaise again with a tasty side salad. As a main course and for a change I chose plaice fillets(€ 12). These were in breadcrumbs served with cabbage, carrots and a delicious mash. My wife had a decent portion of very tasty seafood chowder(€ 9) with two wheaten scones on the side. All good food, mostly fresh food, properly cooked and it tasted very good indeed. I had a 500ml bottle of locally made cider, which was perfect with my food choices. The restaurant was pretty full from we arrived until we left. These folks have nothing to learn as over generations they demonstrate the maxim every day: just serve good tasty fresh and well cooked food at a fair price and customers will do the rest. Simples.
