This review refers to my visit on 16-06-2013. Sorry for the delay. I didn’t know Unilocal before. This pub located in Lucan town is really characteristic and traditional and it worths to visit for a pint if you are in the nearby. Upstairs they have the restaurant where I had lunch with my partner. Again the restaurant is really characteristic, warm, comfortable with stone wall and tatch roof. At the end of the room there is a fireplace, so I suppose during the winter is lighted up to create more atmosphere. I had lunch there at around 2:00 pm. The room was almost empty and there were only 2 other families in the floor. Luckily no children, so no crying :-) Service is a pearl of this pub, it was fantastic, friendly, smooth, perfect. We asked for some info regarding the menu and they easily explained. we ordered an olive bowl for starter(3 Euro), I got a burger with chips(10.95 Euro) and my partner a Chicken Royale(13.95 Euro). I had also a pint of Guinness(4.55 E) and a litre of «Echo Water»(3 Euro). According to my experience of living in Dublin, prices are similar to the ones in the down town, depending where pub you go. Some cheaper, some not but an average the same. The only issue for me was with the food, particularly with portions and presentation. The only thing I would recommend to the Chef of this restaurant is to revise the portions and the way the food is presented. For example, my hamburger was poor in presentation and«said to say» in taste. It definately was home made and I appreciated it, but was a sad presentation like a thin slice of tomato, just one pickled, one leaf of lattuce, etc. It was soo poor I even didn’t take any image.(It wasn’t suppose to write a review at that time so I felt the image useless). My partner took a picture of her chicken Royale, again was not so rich in presentation. I didn’ t mind to pay even more, but the dish was poor. I probably will go back if in Lucan but maybe just for a pint, while I try other pubs nearby and have my idea of the best one.

Specifically — Duke’s Restaurant(upstairs) Full menu with occasional special menu options which are very reasonable. Set in what seems like the attic of this yellow, thatched, quaint pub, Duke’s restaurant seats about 30 maximum. It is like a hidden little gem overlooking Lucan village and, if it is quiet, like your own little getaway. The staff here are very accommodating and always available for your attention. I have sampled a variety of dishes here with no complaints, all tasty. I particularly enjoy the ceasar salad, which has the lightest, yet crispiest croutons I have come across. Downstairs you will find a nice quaint pub with quiet areas to sit in small or larger groups. Bar food is reasonable, if not a little bland. The menu for the bar rarely changes and chicken can be often dry. However, if you make a complaint, the staff here cannot do enough to help rectify the situation. I think this may have something to do with the hands-on management, with the proprietor regularly on site. Food is better in Duke’s than in the bar.

this is quite a nice place. very traditional and great atmosphere. the tatch roof and cobbled flooring really sets the rustic feeling off. a great place for a quick pint or an evening get to gether with friends. courtneys also boasts a night club which is ok but if you can afford a club in town then head to town. the food in the lounge is quite tasteful however the price is not as good as other pubs in the area.
