Used to eat here almost every week during college, never disappointed! Service is so friendly! Nice place to eat outside in the summer.

I go to the Coffee Lounge every Thursday for breakfast. I am a creature of habit and return to places for consistency and quality. I always get the eggs Benedict. The ham is fresh home cooked ham– the same as the roasted ham on Easter or Christmas. I’ve also had it with smoked salmon and it’s divine. The sauce is homemade not the pungent processed packet kind that some places use. The service is exceptional– friendly and attentive. Cappuccinos are delicious. Tables are spacious and not on top of each other. Décor is modern and crisp. My only change would be… How can you get the toast to stay crusty when there’s ham and a poached egg on top? I am not taking down a star because this is an issue with Benedict worldwide! And Coffee Lounge always bring me a side of crisp toast due to the«soggy factor».

This little orange themed café is quaint and off the main road. Like! I’ve had the breakfast twice, which comes with a salad and crisps on the side. Himself had a panini and the salad dressing soaked it through! Soggy panini is no fun. But, the meat was good. Their tea is horrible but coffee is smooth and tasty. I dont like that you can see into the kitchen as they leave the door open. Like the quaint black and orange delf but this seems to be being replaced with generic white delf. Disappointing. If the stuck to their theme and got rid of the salad and crisp sides or at least listed them on the menu for opt-out, I’d be upping the stars!

This is my regular coffee stop when I’m cycling through maynooth. Coffee is very nice and all day breakfast is reasonably priced. Anyone who comes here will notice its strange layout, main siting area is below street level at the rear(of the two story building at front and three story’s at back). So the restaurant has a massive open area to sit indoors or outside in the sun. Good range of food too.

Pros: The Coffee Mill is in an excellent location, and has a terrific layout. It’s big, but still feels cosy. It’s got a outdoor deck that would be great in warm weather. Service is really quick and very friendly. Even during the busy lunch rush the staff keep everything moving. Cons: For food and coffee, there are better options in Maynooth. Across the road, Café Bön Bön has a better selection of cakes, and Boss Hogg(or whatever it’s called lately) has better coffee. All in all, a good spot with some serious competition.

Sometimes just one exchange with one terrible person can ruin your impression of an entire town. I’d like to give Maynooth the benefit of the doubt and perhaps return again someday, but certainly not anytime soon, and NEVER to the Coffee Mill Bistro. I had excitedly embarked on a day trip to Maynooth at the strong suggestion of a friend who had studied at the University there some years ago. From the morning in Dublin and then the train ride, my electronic implements were becoming severely depleted, and I was reliant on them since it was a whimsical trip and I would be needing to consult the internet for train time tables, directions and such. After a lovely visit to the gorgeous NUI/St. Patrick’s campus, I began to stroll the university town, and was pleased when I happened across the Coffee Mill Bistro, as it looked like a promising place to get a decent coffee, charge up, do some writing and respond to some e-mails. Goodness gracious, I could not have been more wrong! I ordered a coffee and it was not bad. The service at the counter was friendly. I got situated with a seat in a corner of the bistro, just next to two sockets that were not in use. Perfect, right? I asked one of the staff members as he walked by what the wifi password was, and was mildly bewildered when he said, «Hmm, I’ll be right back.» He returned only to tell me that they do not have wifi, explaining that it was his first day on the job. Fair enough, obviously he was not informed on the basics of what must be a very common customer request. I was a little disappointed(I mean, what kind of coffee place doesn’t have wifi?!?), but I figured I would still charge up and do some word processing while I sipped on my coffee. There I was, quietly working on a paper for school, typing away, when suddenly I was blind-sided by the worst person I have met thus far in my three months in Ireland. The creepy, rotund, pushy and officious manager of the bistro obtrusively bent inward at me and grumbled«You KNOW there is a € 5 plug-in fee?»(How I was supposed to know this, I am unsure, since information regarding this ‘fee’ was not posted anywhere in the establishment) I was dumbfounded, never having heard of anything like this, anywhere I have been, Ireland or elsewhere. Honestly I thought he was having me on for a moment, and asked«Are you serious?» I could tell by his face that he was not joking. Then he contemptuously asked«Can I come to YOUR home and charge up there?» To which I said, «Sure, be my guest!» Though in hindsight, I would be horrified to have this person as a guest in my home. I told him I had never heard of such an outrageous thing. I cannot recall ever having been treated so rudely in a customer service environment. This man made me feel as though I had personally injured a member of his family by not asking if I could use a socket that was right next to my seat and not in use. Originally intending to spend the day in Maynooth, after this experience I was so upset that I decided to high tail it out of town directly, on the next train back to Dublin. I asked for them to put my coffee in a take away cup, and hurriedly made my way back to the train station. I am sure Maynooth is a perfectly lovely town, but if you do visit, AVOIDTHISPLACEATALLCOSTS!!!

What a transformation! Years ago this place was, to put it bluntly, awful. The place has been seriously revamped a couple of years ago and now it’s one of the best lunch time spots in Maynooth. Such a lovely place to go on a sunny day with it’s outdoor seating available right in front of the café on the mainstreet and also downstairs on a terrace. The café is right beside the river Rye so that’s another plus. Food is moderately priced but of good quality now, thank God. Staff are also lovely.

I absolutely adore this little coffee shop. It’s one of the most comfortable places in which to spend your free time. There’s plenty of comfortable chairs and I’ve never had trouble finding a seat there. The Coffee Mill has an excellent selection of coffees and teas, and offers you the choice of stay in or take away. Their prices are so reasonable and they’ve a fantastic selection of food and snacks as well. My only problem with it, and it’s barely even a problem, is that because you have to go downstairs to get into the place, phone and radio reception can be tricky.
