Roost

By far my favourite pub in Maynooth.
Since my youth I have been frequenting the roost. Back in the day (8 years ago until 3 years ago) the place was a lot more of «a dive» than it is currently. It’s always had a great atmosphere but nowadays it has great entertainment.
For anyone looking for a good night out… go here!

Middle of the road venue. There is a Live band on a Fri & Sat night, that adds a bit of atmosphere to the place, but the pints are a bit hit or miss — you as likely to get a good one as a bad one — and the selection is limited. This is a student pub that hit its hay-​day years ago. But if you get lucky, a nice pint and a good band, can be a great night out.

Hmm this is a toughie to mark.
On the one hand, I can’t stand these types of places. On the other hand, as ‘these places’ go, it’s probably one of the best!
Right let’s go for the objective marking. («Marking»?! Do I think I’m a teacher or something?!)
— It does what it says on the tin. It’s a general, all ages late bar that’s there for havin the craic. Pretentiousness can be left firmly at the door
— When you are going in for a full night of popular music, you may as well hear it from a live band, versus an awful DJ (who does come on after the live band btw.)
— As mentioned above — it’s all ages. If you’re a cougar on the prowl, there’s plenty of pray here for ya, but if you’re wanting to celebrate a 40^th birthday, or equally a 21^st, there’s room for everyone in the Roost!
— Drinks aren’t too expensive, and there’s no cover charge
— Bouncers are friendly and there’s rarely trouble here besides drunken ladies falling down the stairs (of which there are many — watch out if you’re debuting your new 5 inchers in here, ladies!)
— It doubles up as a nice quiet and relatively cosy pub during the day.
So there ye have it. If you’re going, embrace it, and you’ll have a grand old time. If you’ve got a hankering for some black rimmed glasses, skinny jeans and hipstagramation, this is probably not your spot.

awesome live music almost everyday. especially saturday nights every week. Amazing band when we were there. They played all sorts of music. The place was packed with chill and fun people. The place to be in Maynooth!

The Roost is a surprisingly quiet pub. Popping in here for a pint on a Saturday evening, I was expecting a bustling crowd, but instead there was golf on the telly and a few older couple having quiet drinks and quieter conversation. We ended up leaving pretty quickly for a livelier place across the road.
