I’ll be honest; I am biased here as my(drinking and socialising) youth was spent in this pub. Pretty handy considering I only lived a few doors up the road. The bar hasn’t changed… EVER. I include the bar personnel in that, Eamon, Aido and the rest are all still there. However, I do lament the end of the 90’s/early 00’s era of this great pub. The Sunday night pub quiz upstairs compered by DJ Gerry, was crazy. I am still amazed I managed to go to college and/or Work on a monday after a Sunday in the cedars. All prizes tended to be wine or spirits and required further drinking at home to polish off the winnings. Sundays tended to be followed by ‘sneaky pints’ on Tuesdays, ‘Ready for the Weekend pints’ on Thursdays, ‘It’s the Weekend Pints’ on Fridays and ‘Too Poor to go to Town Pints’ on Saturdays. Unfortunately, my generation in the area have grown up and moved on to other areas and the youthful vibe of the ‘upstairs crowd’ has gone, indeed it is a rare night that the upstairs bar is open. I still drop in for the odd pint with my folks or if the lads are in town and the barstaff still remember us by name. Not so much a Pub, as an Intitution.
