One of my favorite places in Ranelaugh/Dublin area. I stayed in the area for over 2 months total across 3 business trips to Dublin in 2015 and always came back as this is a great place to grab a good meal. I haven’t been too impressed by most steak places in Dublin as the cut of meat doesn’t compare to the States with it comparable to a good diner steak but this place did it right and the fish well prepared along with good deserts and wine. I loved that this was a family run place as well.

Had dinner here on Saturday night, going back tomorrow night. The food is all fresh, homemade and perfectly cooked. They do beautiful homemade soups, desserts. A table of seven almost everyone had steak as their main all were cooked exactly as requested very good quality meat. The vegetarian of the group had an excellent meal also. House wine is very reasonably priced and is a very drinkable wine

Food was excellent. We tried the pork belly appetizer — they told us it would take 20 minutes to cook, came out in less than 10. Top was crispy; cooked really well. We both had steaks — mine(the 8 oz) was great, very tender & tasty. It could have used a touch more salt/pepper, I just added some more at the table though, so no big deal. My husband’s steak was more chewy, but I think that had more to do with the cut of beef he chose. The atmosphere was very relaxing and intimate. We had the pana cotta and the rice pudding for desserts, both were delicious. We had an excellent waitress and generally great service throughout. If there is anything I would change, it would be that they should have toasted the bread at the table or served the butter slightly warmer — it was impossible to spread the butter without completely destroying the bread. Oh well — my stomach couldn’t tell the difference.

Went here for brunch on Saturday and had the most disappointing time. The menu was very basic — I opted for he eggs benedict and herself went for a BLT. The food was so standard you could’ve cooked it yourself. The eggs were cold and the bacon was swimming in grease. The BLT had no mayo/butter and the lettuce was cheap iceberg. Literally couldn’t believe we were paying for this. Coffees which we ordered when we arrived didn’t turn up until after we finished. No salt, pepper, sauce anything on the table. The only thing that didn’t disappoint was the cost. € 26 seems reasonable however I’d rather have not paid at all. Useless.

The best Irish meal I’ve had! And I lived in Ireland for 6 months previous to this trip. Came here with a friend on a last minute reservation(we were late, they were nice about it) and ordered the pre fixe dinner with wine. OMG, it was so good. Started with mussels, which was a huge steaming portion with delicious flavors and great bread. Next was the steak. Perfectly cooked, high quality meat, and yummy veggies on the side. Our side of chips was great too. The wine that came with our dinner was a great selection too. I was telling my Irish friend that I used Unilocal in the US and was surprised there weren’t as many reviews in Europe, and the waiter overheard and joked about being a Unilocal reviewer. I told him I’d leave them a great review, and I am, because it was a delicious and satisfying meal in every way. Come here for outstanding food and friendly service.

This is not going to be the most thorough or fair review as we only ordered 2 starters and a bottle of wine as AB was our first haunt of our food and booze crawl of Ranelagh. So read this knowing that they offer much more than what I have to write! We ordered the scallops and mussels to spit between 4 people and the scallops were cooked perfectly and the black pudding perfectly complimented the scallops. As my dining companion eagerly pointed out«yay! Te left the Orange bit on» and I love that bit too.(Note to chefs: stop throwing it away!!!) the mussels were my main problem as most of them were shrivelled from being overcooked and the broth was laden with garlic… It should’ve come with a warning label as if I were on a Valentine’s Day date, I wouldn’t be handing out any kisses!

Bloody delicious — the surf and turf was utter perfection(bar the slightly measly serving of 6 small polenta chips). Only my girlfriend ordered dessert but I was given a plate with some ice cream and a second spoon to share which was a really nice touch! Would return and would recommend.

Tried this place out due to menupages voucher. Two friends accompanied me and we were expecting a lovely time. Arrived there and got seated right away. I guess having only one other customer helps. I’ve been to very expensive food establishments in my life and have no problem paying for quality. However, this was beyond a yoke. The food was bland, the mushroom soup looked like black vomit but with a mash potato like– consistency. The starter portion of pork belly was just a square inch of fat and the cheap leafy greens made up for the lack of quantity on the plate. The oysters were bland and the chicken dish(only one on the menu) was € 19? For the tiniest bit of chicken and gravy. Considering the table decoration are from Dunnes Stores Homeware(I have one!) It definitely was laughable of the portion sizes and quality for the prices there were asking. The mints on the bill plate were the best bit.

A few weeks ago we were looking for somewhere to eat and tried a new place in Ranelagh called An Bhialann. We had a few suggestions and this one popped out. I was in the mood for some tasty fish and we couldn’t agree on somewhere to grab a bite. An Bhialann is a seafood and steak restaurant, sorted! It’s relatively new, just a few months old, and is located on the main street on Ranelagh. There’s a gorgeous bright window in the front, but we sat a little further in, on the high tables in a darker area. The menu is heaven! The menu is 90% gluten free, including the sauces. We were recommended their mash … It did not disappoint. I had pan roasted fillet of cod with a red pepper cream and the other half ordered steak with peppered sauce. I think the speciality in this place is definitely the sauces. The food is awesome, don’t get me wrong,(the fish was perfectly cooked with a lovely crust on the skin and soft meat and the steak was butter to cut), but the sauces were out of this world! That peppered sauce with the steak was so intensely beautiful, I just wanted to take it home with me! We wanted to split a dessert and I knew exactly what I wanted: bread and butter pudding! They have gluten free bread and butter pudding. I knew as soon as the menu was in front of me I needed to have this. We ordered one to share and the guys brought a portion split between two plates with our own ice cream! I’ve never had bread and butter pudding. If this was half a portion, it’d definitely be enough for me. It was so heavy, but delightful with the beautifully complementary ice cream. I’ll definitely be back here to try more off the menu and enjoy the atmosphere of the place. It was quite quiet when we were in, as it was pretty early in the evening, but I can see this place gaining a following pretty quickly. I did notice that the tables are not crowded together, so there will still be an element of privacy retained during busier services.

Just returned from an excellent dinner with my Irish family. The chowder was first rate and the sea bass was perfectly prepared. Others had the mussels and the steak, both gave thumbs up. Will add to the list of Dublin great restaurants. Tell Josephine that Dennis said hello!

Can I please get some more stars here please? What a great dining experience my friend and I had before breaking for the holidays! Of course we thought about Christmas dinner way too late and we couldn’t get a reservation anywhere, except for An Bhialann, who were busy enough when I called and made my booking. I was greeted by Josephine, the owner, who let me choose my table, as the dining room was half empty and left me alone to wait for my tardy friend. Shortly after, Josephine gave me an amuse-bouche of homemade chicken liver pâté, which I eventually had to share with my friend. After hearing my friend’s explanations about her delay, we ordered the special, which was medallions of beef fillet with mash and green beans. We washed that down with a lovely Shiraz! Delicious. After we finished our main, we were asked to try the restaurant’s new palette cleanser, which was a sorbet of rocket and lime. It was delicious and I was delighted to be a guinea pig. Then dessert, I had the popular apple crumble with cream and ice cream and my friend had the cheese cake. All delicious. Clearly it was a great dining experience, and there are many restaurants in Dublin that offer the same. However, what stands out at An Bhialann is the service and the warmth of Josephine and her family, who have grouped together to create a sumptuous atmosphere. I will definitely be back and look forward to bringing more friends and family for this great Irish culinary experience.
