If I could give no stars I would. We said we would try a different Indian to our local in Rathfarnham. But never again. Firstly our drinks were not delivered with our food. Small thing. Opened the food and the rice was crunchy to say the least. But I was told on the phone thats normal. Maybe they need to tell other restaurants how to cook their food then because everyone else have not got Chewy crunchy rice. The bread was as cold as a sliced pan. The Korma was warm to say the least and the biryani came with this bland cucumber type sauce. The manager on the phone could at best offer me more rice and bread but had no drivers so that would take ages, not much good as the rest of your already cold meal would even grow colder. If I wanted reheated food I would order the day before and reheat. Basically if you want good Indian food go to your local Indian owned and run Indian restaurant and not a fast food one like this. Actually I’d go to Macdonald before I’d go here again.

Who cares what the food tastes like if it is late. Promised at 30 to 60 minutes, I called and was told” we have no control of the food delivery”. Wonderful. We are the manufacturer but we have nothing to do with product delivery. Its the customers problem. As usual, the response is to throw money at the problem. We were given a € 20 credit. If they added up all the credits and applied it to solving the problem it would be a win/win. Instead we just keep getting our food late. See my previous review. Same problem. BTW, food arrived luke warm and bread was stone cold. Despite this it is very good food. If they just got there act together they could really be terrific.

Although not my favorite Indian takeaway in Dublin this is probably my second favorite. They do a roaring trade of takeaway in the Rathfarnham area, this is a very busy place all the time so I would probably ring in your order. The kitchen is open to the public and you can watch whats going on. It looks pretty amazing. We love the Butter Chicken here, which can be quite spicy but very nice. The starters are generally quite nice as well. They do deals as well, two mains and two starters for a fixed price. Its not a bad deal. We find that one main can quite easily feed two people and two mains definitely can feed three people or maybe two kids and two adults. All in all worth a try if you are in the area.

Everyone raves about Bombay pantry, but I’m not that enamoured with it. Sure the food is a decent standard and consistent, but to be quite honest, aside from the samosas, which are perhaps the most satisfying texture I’ve ever tasted, the curry dishes are not astoundingly different to those made by any other less reknowned take-aways. Their chicken tikka masala is actually quite boring, the tomato is too dominant and it lacks the creaminess one would normally expect from the dish. Their portions are not particularly big either. € 1.85 for steamed rice and € 1.95 for pulao is ridiculous if you ask me and they also do not give poppadoms free with the meal, regardless of how much you spend, which is a crime! They’re always busy so delivery is guaranteed to be a miniumum 50 minute wait. Why wait ages and pay higher prices when you can get pretty much the same standard of food and perhaps better service from somewhere less well branded?

It was the first time I had been to any Bombay Pantry business(we usually got orders delivered) and it’s an impressive setup. There is a pleasant waiting area and behind the counter is an open kitchen where the staff were busy with all the orders. It’s nice to see the kitchen, which looked clean and well setup. The food took a while though, but that was a result of the sheer numbers of orders they were working through. There was a big amount of people arriving in to pick up their orders, not to mention the endless team of delivery guys they had streaming in with their warm boxes in tow. We got the Tiffin Box for 2 to start(a mix of the popular starters), the butter chicken, pulao rice and nan bread. All were very nice indeed, the usual standard you’d expect from Bombay Pantry.

The food is good, maybe even more. But the service is terrible. I ordered for delivery and got an email confirmation at 7:06PM. At 8:25 I called and they said… oh it should go out soon”. Then they called back and said they were sending it. Then it took 15 more minutes even though we are 5 minutes away. Come to think of it, it may be the internet ordering company, Eat City. I don’t think I will use the service again.

Did you ever see the Indian sauces and microwave type dinners that you can by in Dunnes? The really tasty ones? Well these come from this shop or another branch of this. It’s a really good Indian takeaway with all the typical Indian fare but even more tasty than normal. It also sells portions that you can put in the fridge and cook yourself later. If you are feeling very adventurous they even have some raw ingredients for sale so you could try making your own Indian!
