A lovely quiet bar for a nice sit down. On one occasion we joined the few locals in the bar section and watched a John Wayne movie. Wonderful. On another occasion we join friends for a quiet chat and catch up. Bliss. If you find the hubub and noise of Blackbird a bit much, then I recommend you scoot around the corner to Corrigans. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Blackbird, but Corrigans is an ideal alternative when you want find your own thoughts. Or someone else.

Like it. Nice relaxing pint. Convivial atmosphere. Respectful and courteous staff. Great bit of craic to be had with regulars. Barrel of laughs.

Smokers lament that the smoking ban has corralled their dying breed into the doors and doorways of every pub in Ireland. I suppose standing in the cold while you walk smugly past them into the warmth of the hearts and hearths of your local has turned them into a begrudging, surly bunch. So now that people outside have become a good indication of what isn’t inside my first impressions were I was onto a winner this evening when, on my first visit there in 7 years, I was greeted by three ladies at the door who slipped pleasant«howareyis» in between smiley puffs. Bless. Inside the place was exactly as dead as I remembered it but the half finished drinks on every table was intriguing, had I stumbled into the pub equivalent of the Mary Celeste? As I rounded the corner the old school bar man shuffled into view, pulled an impeccable pint and dutifully forgot my change. Well! The back door to the smoking area opened and in came the mysterious drinks’ drinkers. They were led by a guy who picked up a banjo and another on the whistle. They sat and with much encouragement from the locals(who were all on first name terms with everyone) they let loose a nice mix of ballads sung as they should be, getting the locals going and living up to the old promise of «Beidh ceol, caint agus craic againn». The band finished with the promise to be back the next couple of Wednesdays. As the winter slowly starts to creep under our skin I can’t think of a reason not to enjoy a few quiet ones in this cozy and comfy old school pub — the locals are friendly, the Guinness perfection and there’s a barman who still hasn’t remembered my change!

The Mount P is my favourite watering hole in Dublin. Unpretentious, excellent Guinness, great place to watch a match in peace. I love this place. I’m always left slightly baffled as to how it stays in business– almost every time I come here pretty much all the other tables are empty. Maybe the crowds are flocking to see their new Simpsons themed smoking area just left of the men’s toilets. I just hope they never do anything as exotic to the interior as I love the fading couch upholstery and worn carpet! I’ve spent many a Sunday evening here with friends enjoying the laid back atmosphere and well price pints. My only complaint– bring back the Manhattan Pub Crisps!

Due to the city being thronged for the Obama’s visit, we decided to pop down here yesterday evening to watch the speech on TV. We went into the bar area which is spotlessly clean. Very bright due to the large windows which is a welcome change from the dark dingy bars. Green tiled walls and dark wooden floors. Excellent old school bartender. Regulars in attendance which as a woman I did feel rather uncomfortable as they obviously haven’t seen the opposite sex for quite some time. Staring at me drinking my tea is not my idea of fun. Very John B Keane style characters and I guess that makes me the little woman.

Corrigans – or the Mount P, as those who who are incredibly sound call it – is possibly the best pub in Dublin. Luckily it’s mostly empty as there actually aren’t that many sound people in Dublin and that ones that are appear to be over the age of 70, based on the Corrigans clientèle. Good place for a pint and their spirits – namely their vodka and red lemonade – is served cheapish and strongish.

This used to be my local because I was living just around the corner. I have to agree with Steinunn in that Corrigan’s is nice and quiet with friendly locals and great staff. Always very welcoming and warm, maybe more so because it’s not on any of the major roads so there are less people stumbling over this place by accident. Great place if you want to enjoy a few quiet ones in a cozy and comfy pub or if you just want to meet people for a chat. Corrigan’s isn’t trying to attract young and hip people but it does what a good pub should do– provides you with good pints in a friendly atmosphere. Drop by! I still do even though I no longer live around the corner.

Corrigans will always have a special place in my heart. Not that it’s the best local pub in the Portobello area(O’connels would get my vote there) but because it was here that I witnessed Ireland beat France in the Six Nations Championship, which as we all know was only the beginning of the greatest rugby journeys in Irish history in decades. On a regular weeknight, it’s a nice and quiet drinking destination where the friendly locals meet over early pints to discuss current affairs and usually don’t mind if you pop in for a quick beer, as long as you don’t make too much noice.
