The kiddies area and the sci-fi section are good, but the books are quite pricey. The staff are always nice and well read. Stays open later than most shops in the Swan Centre so handy after work if you’re stuck for a book!

Dubray Books in Rathmines used to confuse the hell out of me when I was a kid. Why is it called Dubray if its not in Bray???(The first Dubray Books that I was ever in was in fact in Bray. Very confusing.) Dubray books in Rathmines is a great little bookshop. They have plenty of special offers on some really interesting books, and the stands in the middle of the shop present you with some suggestions and recommendation that you wouldn’t ordinarily think of yourself. There’s often signed copies of new releases available too, which make good presents.

Nice and spacious, and boasting a good selection of yes, that’s right, books, you can’t really fault Dubray for much. However, I am a little jealous of their children’s section, which has customer seats. Are adults not people too?

A decent bookshop. It has a good stock of popular books and bestsellers and a nice smattering of other random books for the less mainstream minded. The prices here aren’t too bad either. One of the things I really like about this place is how good it is for browsing for Christmas presents. They tend to leave out good gift ideas and often they’re for a reduced price. They also have a good few author-signed books available which is a nice little extra if you can get it. Mostly this place is for the generalist rather than the specialist, but for a suburban bookshop it’s pretty good.

Dubrays in the Swan centre, the main competiton to Hannas bookshop outside is another independent Irish book seller. As a book lover and supporter of Irish business its again great to see Irish shops doing well and we haven’t be invaded by Waterstones just yet. All the Dubray’s shops are a bit different though, this one is more modern and wider then Hanna’s down the road, but less developed in terms of stock. The store is big and bright with helpful and firendly staff. Although the place is nice, I can’t help but feel the swan centre has seen better days. Lets hope it doesn’t affect the always up to standard Dubray books.

I am a man who enjoys a good book shop. In my mind I see two distinct types of shops, the large stores can offer huge range and great offers. The small stores can offer unique charms and rare little gems. This store unfortunately falls between two stools, it is undeniably a very small store, but it has aspirations to be a big store. So yes its neat and tidy and well laid out, but it is limited to only the most popular stock. It’s the kind of store you might find yourself buying something in… but only if you were stuck in the airport.
