The layout of the café is interesting in that there was a large main table that would seat over 20 people in small groups along with a collection of semi-sectioned tables for two. I quite liked the layout of the place as it invited a range of different dining situations and would be perfect for a tapas style dining situation I felt. I went for the chicken stuffed with feta and wrapped with prosciutto on the specials board for my lunch as the rest of their options were quite light and I was feeling quite peckish with our late lunching time. The dish was all right, I felt that there was not enough feta with only a single piece in the middle and the salad it came with was quite lacking. The others who also ordered the same dish as me had similar observations, some also found the chicken dry without the use of the sauce which was like a Bolognese pasta sauce. With our mains done a few of us chose to have desert also and some hot drinks as it had started raining dashing our enthusiasm to go and explore the town. I choose to give the mango and lemon cheesecake a go with some tea. The flavour of the cheesecake worked quite well, and better than I had expected when ordering it to try it out. However I found the cheesecake a tad too sweet with the mango sauce. The other deserts ordered included the chocolate hazelnut cake which also received a thumbs up while being devoured.

I went twice on my trip home to Sligo. Both times the staff the friendly, helpful and polite. The food was tasty, well priced and probably the best Cappuccino in town! I was excited to try the cappuccino with Amaretto, but they had none left. I went with vanilla instead and it was delicious

I really love the waterfront view, and cosy atmosphere of A Casa Mia, but as Sligo is quite awkward to find a mid-range place to eat for dinner in the evening(cafes closed, other restaurants too expensive or with limited vegetarian options), I settled for A Casa Mia. Rugantino is a far superior restaurant around the corner, its a real shame they don’t have the floor space A Casa Mia has, as the food is genuinely Italian, in contrast to the hodge podge of Spanish sausage and dull tapas ACM offers. My rosemary roasted potatoes had obviously been sitting out all day, or were from the day before. They were hard and very dry, with no hint of rosemary, a dizzle of olive wouldn’t have done any harm. The bruschetta which I’ve had in the past was tasteless — the tomatoes had lost all their colour and were nearly translucent, another case of the veg ‘resting’ for a couple of days. The bread was dry, with no hint of garlic. A very simple dish, but very disappointing. It wasn’t even that busy but the place felt understaffed. I was assured by the manager or cashier that this would be ‘passed on to the chef’. I’m sure. I had eaten all my food as I was very hungry and in a hurry, otherwise I would have sent it back. On the service side of things, the young waiter was very polite. but hilariously the cashier thought my 18 year old brother was my date(we look alike!!) I didn’t have the heart to tell him… The most Italian thing about A Casa Mia is its name(meaning«at my place/at your place»), and some of the Italian wines they sell. That’s it. The food and service needs to improve, as the contrast to its competitors is becoming very apparent in the«Italian» Quarter(which actually comprises of a Polish supermarket and a French bakery and a pizza restaurant, owned by A Casa Mia). I won’t be rushing back here, even if I need something to eat in a hurry next time.

A Casa Mia is right on the River Garavogue and in «little Italy» section of town. It is a trendy café with newspapers strewn about for people to read. The serve coffees, teas, desserts, breakfasts and warm food. We heard they were like tapas so we ordered three plates: ravioli of the day which were filled with goats cheese and lovely with a pesto sauce; pork belly with pork rind; lamb kebab all served with a salad. The plates were not huge but definitely larger than tapas and two plates would have been fine. The flavours were perfect! I like the way the tables are integrated into bookshelves but they’re quite small.
