For a small town centre Sligo has a wealth of decent cosy pubs. Connollys is in my top 3. My Dad claims the best Guinness in Sligo is served here — Seamus Heaney was a fan whenever he was in Sligo for the Yeats Summer School so can’t argue with that! The best thing about Connollys is the snugs — they’re not the most comfortable but feel very intimate. The bar man here is so friendly and accommodating, always has a smile on his face and a friendly greeting at the bar. The value can’t be beat — you’ll have change from a tenner after buying a glass of wine and a pint of the black stuff! There’s usually a few local auld lads sitting at the bar having a chat. This place used to be popular with local men working on the Quays years back, and the walls are adorned with historical photographs, memorabilia of local interest. The windows are traditionally dressed with old pub paraphernalia. Its lovely here in the long summer evenings, you’re just far enough removed from the bustle of the town centre. On a side note, the toilets have been renovated in the past couple of years, so they’re clean and modern.
