The old sign«Men-Only Diving Cove» remains, but the locals have long embraced communal swimming. A path grips the cliff-face, guiding you sharply down to a platform built onto rocks overlooking a narrow rocky beachless cove. The water is beautifully and transparently green, but the cove is too deep to see to the bottom. In addition to the main diving board, small diving platforms have been built into the rocks at various heights along the cliff-face opposite — adored by kids in the summer who want to terrify their parents. Be warned — jump well out away from the rocks when diving off these platforms — once you’re out past the cliff-face the water is deep and safe. The Guillamene is home to Tramore’s «Christmas Day Swim», when the town turns out at 11am ish for the ultimate hangover cure: a dip in the(to say the least) bracing waters, followed by a quick nip of brandy. For confident swimmers only.
