Today was a find-a-nice-place-en-route kind of day. On our first full day in Florence, we were after a spot of breakfast, some cappuccinos and free wifi. Caffè Megara ticked all the boxes. — It’s a nice little café, not too far from the Uffizi museum, with coffee and fresh sandwiches. Whilst my friend and I were looking at the pastries and sandwiches, the waitress come round to take our order since there were currently people placing their order with another waitress at the till point. I really liked that she noticed us waiting and served us; this was very attentive. I went for the mozzarella and tomato sandwich which was served warm. The sandwich was seasoned with Italian herbs; a nice little touch which totally upgraded it from average sandwich to awesome sandwich in the flavour department. — It made for a lovely breakfast that fuelled a busy morning sightseeing. I am always prepared to be disappointed in simply stumbling across somewhere to eat in a new city, but Caffè Megara was a great find, and just what we needed at the time. — Great value too; around € 6 for coffee and a sandwich!

free wifi! a godsend for social media-deprived foreigners who are too cheap to spend money on international roaming charges. plus, let’s be honest. the days when i can Unilocal what restaurants nearby are good sure beat the days where i randomly walk into a restaurant and hope for the best based on the menu outside. thus, internet required. this place also serves some delicious and pretty affordable coffee. about 3 euros for a cappuccino. this café is also conveniently a bar, so you can order a splash of whiskey with your coffee if you so desire… great service with a smile. and they didn’t hate us for not speaking italian. grazie!

Caffe Megara and I go WAY back. I used to come here 10 years ago when I was in Florence doing a study abroad program. I would come after school for a coffee. One of the best things about this bar is the amazing 70s/80s vintage music that they play on their TVs. I laugh every time I come in, because the music is so outrageous, even in my most serious and depressive moments, it cracks me up listening to whaM! and AbbA, music I haven’t heard in ages. I almost always come in the mornings now, so I am not sure about the food or aperitivo. But this place is usually filled with people eating lunch or breakfast, so they must be doing something right. The prices are standard bar prices, beware that they do have different prices if you sit at a table. So sit at the bar if you don’t want to pay 3 euro for a cappuccino. Free wifi, very comfortable seating, even during the rush hour mornings I can always find a place to sit. Very friendly staff, very attentive and very easy, in the sense that when you come in you are greeted in a friendly manner and can order and pay with out searching out a waiter or wondering where to sit or where to find a menu … Love it! I am a friday morning regular :)

This is a great little bar/restaurant in Florence with reasonable prices – probably because it’s a little off the beaten path. This was a favorite spot of my girlfriend’s when she was a student. My girlfriend and had a great little lunch here and popped in again later for a refreshment. They’ve got salads, pizzas, sandwiches, piadini(sort of like little quesadillas) and pastas. There is a free happy hour buffet with a bunch of finger foods(please don’t use your fingers, you dirty tourist). They even have a few different kinds of beers on tap and a full bar. However, if you order a gin and tonic beware that they might give you a very large glass of tonic with a shot of gin – way too much tonic for my taste.
