BEST food &BEST service ever! 2nd time in Florence & I have to say this is the best food I’ve ever had in all of Italy. I had the lasagna, house red & white wine, tiramisu & limoncello. My whole family agreed that this was their favorite restaurants by far! The food was super flavorful & every bite was savory. I could have had like 5 plates to myself. I recommend this to everyone!!! Definitely will be back soon.

Great service, we came with no reservations and they sat us promptly and served within 15mins. I ordered a mixed grilled meat(pork, chicken, sausage, beef) which included roasted potatoes on the side. My husband ate lasagna. We enjoyed our dinner very much, our dishes had a lot of flavor and portions were generous. We’ll probably come back. In addition, they also have on the go or take out on the opposite side of the restaurant.

Great food, reasonable prices, over the top service and great Lemonjello. The wine(table) was a cut above. Don’t miss this restaurant(we went to a lot of them in two weeks) it was our favorite.

Phenomenal meal, first night in Florence. We came in for a late meal and couldn’t have asked for a better beginning for our trip. Tiramisu to finish the night and a20 minute walk back to our air BNB.

Average food but very poor service. It seems for lunch they only have 1 waitress. Bread with no plate, forgot to bring water and you walk to the register and wit to pay. Would not recommend.

The food is amazing here! I had the roasted chicken and potatoes which were so delicious and I went back the next day for the ribs! If your in the mood for meat, this is the place to go!

Junk! Do not come here! I generally never write reviews unless something is so spectacularly good or so unbelievably disappointing. If I could give zero stars, I totally would. When we went into the restaurant, everyone was super friendly to coax us to sit down. Then, basically nothing happened for a really long while. We asked for service but were asked to ‘wait a minute’ every time while the servers went onto help every other table but us. Im not sure if its because we’re tourists but aren’t most patrons in this area tourists as well? We were treated as if we did not have money to pay(like second class citizens) and our dinner came to well over € 100 for 2 people. The food was subpar, at best. Not very flavourful and a definite disappointment to some of the other Italian restaurants we had tried in the region. I would take my money elsewhere in a heartbeat and i urge you to do the same! Stay far away!!!

Tonight dinner we did and a nice trattoria called«Ristorante La Spada«, known for their wood fire burning grill and roasting ovens… we had the lasagna ragu and… bisteca alla fiorentina… food was great, atmosphere was great… if only the service could match…

My wife and i were visiting Florence and our airbnb host recommended us this place. We shared 1-kg of steak florentine and it was great. The steak took about 20min to cook and it came rare. It was served in a large skillet along with baked potatoes. The overall portion was very large and we were stuff at the end of the meal. We think it can be easily shared with three people. The service was excellent, we didn’t have to wait like other reviewers.

The food is amazing! The steak florentine is an absolute must have. We had three different pastas during our meal and each one was cooked to perfection. This is a must stop on your trip into the city.

Had heard about this restaurant from our host here in Florence but finding these places is always a challenge! When we happened to stumble in, a couple on their way out could only song the praises and introduced us to the owner, Guissepe(sp?). He and his staff found a table for us and we had the most amazing meal! Homemade lasagna and chefs choice of pastas omg with se appetizers and homemade wine! Topped off with the best ever homemade Tiramasu and we could only ask what time they open in the morning to come back for more! Yummy

I’d actually rate this 2 ½ stars. The restaurant was near our apt. in Florence. We were originally going to get take out, but when we got there, the food looked like it had been sitting for a long time so we opted to eat inside. It took about 10 minutes for us to be seated, then another 10 – 15 for our order to be taken. I got a ravioli dish with mushrooms and ham. My husband ordered the filet. They did not ask how he wanted it cooked. My husband asked the waiter, and he said they normally serve rare. They did cook it medium rare as requested. The bread was very dry and flavorless(no charge for the bread). My ravioli was also bland. I added salt(which I haven’t done in 4 days of being in Italy), and the dish was better. I didn’t taste any cheese, it was more like eating a potato filling. My husbands filet was also pretty bland, though the potatoes that came with were very good. Service was slow, and the waiters seemed a little confused and banged things around a lot. Overall, I would not return, nor recommend.

I am so mad Unilocal! How dare you give this place four stars!!! This was the worst lunch my husband and I had ever experienced in Italy. The customer service was unsatisfactory as well. Food: –The bread they served before the meal was flavorless and was pretty dry. I’m not even sure if the bread was fresh just because of the dry texture and really hard crust. –Their roasted chicken was flavorful but the meat was dry. It came with potatoes that were also dry. I had to douse them in olive oil just to give them some moisture. The potatoes could also do well with some extra seasoning. –The tripe was well prepared and tasted very clean. It came in a marinara type of sauce. I think they did a fantastic job on a dish that a lot of people botch. –The tortellini alla medici looked pretty. They were cute little tortellinis with some type of red sauce and peas. I thought it tasted decent but my husband and I both agreed that it wasn’t mind blowing. Customer service: We walked in with two medium sized luggage and they said we can sit in the corner since we had bulky luggage. After sitting for 10 minutes unattended, our server brings us bread. Problem is, we didn’t have any plates where we can put the bread and some olive oil to dip it in. We asked the server for some plates and had to wait another 10 minutes to receive them. Mind you, this restaurant was NOT busy at all. We weren’t sure why the service was slow. During the meal, the server never checked on us to see if we needed anything. Fast forward to the end of the meal. Husband and I have been sitting there for a good while. My husband asked for the check from a person who seems to be the manager but he obviously forgot about it because he went to do other things and never brought out the check. We asked for the check from our server and AGAIN, we had to wait for our bill. I decided to wait outside while my husband pays the bill, who AGAIN stood there waiting. They made him walk all the way to the back because the credit card machine wasn’t working in the front and AGAIN my husband had to wait for them to process the credit card. Couldn’t they just take his card and run it in the back just like any other normal restaurant? Basically, their food is OK but for the price we paid, we think it’s not worth it. What really ruined the meal is the subpar customer service.

This is another one of the trattorias/restaurants on Via della Spada that serves up excellent traditional Florentine food. La Spada is my favorite, however, due to the fact that this place is a rosticceria and makes a great rosticciana(Florentine roasted spare ribs). Simple, yet delicious, you have to come here if you’re in Florence.

I want to start this review by saying that if I was rating it as a rosticceria, I would absolutely give them 4 stars no problem because the food here is actually really good but this review/rating was for their restaurant. The ambiance itself is really nice and has been recently renovated. I have often been here to pick up food for lunch as it is very popular in the area with workers. I went this past Monday with someone who had been going there for a number of years. I mean literally everyday for dinner getting more or less the same meal. I was really excited to try this place at night as well! We were shown to a table and sat down and proceeded to order, no problems. They asked us if we wanted a small or big bottle of wine which was a bit strange, I don’t think I have ever seen this small of a bottle even available but awesome, ok. We order our food and two of our plates were ready while the third was not, The waitress said just a few minutes, but that turned into at least 15 minutes. She finally admitted that the kitchen forgot about it without even apologizing even though we had already eaten our plates which I did feel bad about. nn si fa cosi! Everything was fine for the second course but when we tried to order another bottle of wine, they forgot about that as well, and naturally no apology when we had to insist they bring it out, which I thought was super strange. I mean really, you forget to bring it, ok thats fine but at least pretend that you care? Then we were ordering dessert she just asks if we want tiramisu. This was annoying because in the type of menu I got, I could order any dessert that was available but she didn’t seem like she wanted to tell me about any other. Thankfully I insisted on her telling me the other options and not just assume that I was a tourist(which shouldn’t happen anyway) and wouldn’t want anything else, especially since the chestnut budino I did have was absolutely delicious! Conclusion, good food, I enjoyed my trio of pasta, arrosto, patate and dessert but the service that night was terrible and unapologetic which honestly I would have expected much more considering that we were with someone who dines there every single evening.

Had the T-bone Florentine style and the spaghetti carbonara. Great place to get authentic Italian food and reasonable prices, I would highly recommend.

La Spada was just what we were looking for — casual, traditional Italian food, well-prepared and delicious. Service was friendly & helpful. Wine was well priced, as was the food. It’s a little more off the beaten path and not full of tourists. Nevertheless, the waitress spoke English, so you have some help figuring out the menu. As other reviewers said, the tortellini alla Medici is great. I tried the trippa(tripe) and enjoyed that as well.

Another old college haunt of my girlfriend, we decided to hit Spada on our last night in Florence. It’s not far from where we were staying and we wanted something a little less fancy, but still good quality. Spada fits the bill perfectly. We split a delicious tortellini ala medici, which has a creamy and hearty sauce with peas and bacon. My girlfriend ordered the scamorza – a delicious, smoked cheese topped with prosciutto and baked. It was a gooey and decadent concoction – but a must for cheese lovers. We split a plate of grilled sausage that came with some tasty white beans. As a side we had the rosemary-seasoned potatoes, patate alla ghiotta, which were good but not as crispy as we would have liked. We also shared the sformato di verdure, which was like a slice of veggie quiche – it was good but didn’t wow us. The service was fast and friendly. The server liked that we spoke Italian and he helped us pick out an awesome bottle of red wine(for only 15 euro). The meal was quite large, very good and pretty reasonably priced at about only 60 euros.

A good and casual trattoria that we used to come to quite regularly. They used to run a special for those of us who knew Padre Bruno. This a casual place, simple and without frills. But they offer traditional food, and there are all types of meat on the spit… rabbit, veal, turkey, beef… and I dont remember another place in Florence that offered all of these. La Spada means the sword, and this is what they do best. I often had the ¼ chicken, with delicious roasted potatoes… but their pastas were good also. They have friendly service and can accommodate larger groups if you have one. It is one of those places that is easy to come and eat without the hassle of other crowded restaurants.
