A local branch of the Conad supermarket chain. For those of you not familiar, Conad is a co-op supermarket group, one of the largest in Italy. This location is near the Ponte Vecchio and very convenient if you are staying in the neighborhood. It doesn’t look like much from the outside at least, but the inside is well stocked with almost any grocery item you may need. I am a fan of the in house Conad brands, which while sometimes more expensive than the competition, are of excellent quality while still affordable. Of particular note at this store is the fresh produce, meats & cheeses, and my favorite, the wine section. There are a wide variety of local Tuscan wines at all price points. While staying in the neighborhood we purchased several bottles of montepulciano and pinot noir, with the cheapest being € 2 on clearance. That particular bottle was just as good as the others, with none priced more than € 5 during our visits. Contrary to the experiences of others, we encountered no issues with staff members. The checkout line features no indicator lights or loudspeaker to let you know which lines are open, so pay close attention and you’ll be fine. Overall, if you are staying in the neighborhood and want fresh and affordable groceries, I cannot recommend this Conad enough.

If you’re american please take your business somewhere else. We went in to buy a few items and yes, we are not fluent in Italian, so when the next checker was available he had to tell twice that he was free. Sorry about that(people were still at his register so we didn’t realize). But he was then rude to us and obviously annoyed during check out, and short changed us € 5. When we asked about our change, the manager made us wait 10 – 15 min while they closed the store and he counted his drawer to see if there was an extra € 5. While we waited it was just tense. There was an extra € 5 after all(we knew we didn’t get it bc we can count) and another manager walked over and just said ‚“here.” There was no apology or acknowledgement. It just wasn’t a nice experience.

Note: the map on Unilocal shows the location a little off from where it really is. When you are in Firenze, you can find a ton of restaurants from a McDonald’s across the street from the train station to high class bistros where you can get white truffel on your eggs. But sometimes you just want something to eat !! It’s not as complete as a Whole Foods in the US but they have take out food here at this grocery and you can get out of the rain to enjoy some yogurt or lasagne and a Coke at their counter near the exit after the checkouts. When you think of a grocery, you probably think of canned food and box pasta, but this grocery is mostly fresh food, deli, and hot bar. You can get some chips and candy too, but my favorite part of the store was the wine selection. They had 4 kinds of Brachetto D’Aqui which is so hard to find in the US, it was like Christmas in Italy. As I always say, I’ll be back !!

Great location to grab groceries or a snack near the Ponte Vecchio. They have tables at the exit to enjoy your snack. You weave around the aisles from produce to the bakery, their pre-packaged food, the deli case, fantastic wine selections… oh the aisles continue with typical grocery needs. Heed Alexa’s warning about weighing the produce in the produce area. If you can’t make it to Mercato Centrale, this is your next best option in the center. They tend to be packed on a Sunday just before closing… the checkout line may weave around all the aisles, but it goes fairly quickly as there are typically several people helping with checkout.

My favorite«supermarket» in Florence. Tons of offerings: great-looking produce, fresh-baked breads and pastries, fresh pasta, packaged meats and cheeses, prepared foods, a good meat counter, and an awesome wine selection. Prices are good, variety is great, layout is convenient, and the checkout area is efficiently run. It’s right at the base of the Ponte Vecchio, so it’s a great place to stop and grab picnic supplies if you’re heading the the Boboli Gardens for the afternoon or heading home after a day of sightseeing and need some dinner items.

Wide variety of fresh food and groceries at good prices. Good for Sundays when the local markets are closed. Weigh your produce and print the price tag in that section before taking your items to the checkout. Otherwise a middle-aged Italian woman will judge your American ignorance.
