This place was nasty!!! I would have never stepped foot in this place if I wasn’t on a tour. Everything was a disappointment, what a sad excuse for an Italian restaurant.

First dinner post arrival in Milan. Took a nap immediately after arriving, then very hungry went to find some food. Calafuria Unione had menus in multiple languages in addition to Italian, English, German, French. This was a big plus, especially when I hadn’t had time to do any research to find some food, and I wasn’t staying in a hotel, so I didn’t have concierge service. I had the pizza, which was good, but it’s hard to go wrong with pizza. The bruschetta was very good. Draft wine good. The staff were friendly.

Our first dinner in Milan was at Calafuria Unione which is said to have been around since 1903 with Tuscan origins. They have a woodfire oven to cook their pizzas and a nice meat display upon entering the restaurant. At night, the restaurant sits in a dark alley and there was graffiti on the exterior. My husband and I are standing on the side of the street and a car rolls up and a guy speaks to us in Italian for directions. HA… flattered, but we barely know where we are. For appetizers, we had prosciutto, cannoli filled with ricotta cheese and risotto. The prosciutto was nice and salty with great flavor, however I though the risotto was bland and nothing special. My husband got the eggplant parmigiana and I ordered the salmon. The salmon was not quite what I was expecting as it was in small pieces with some arugula on top. It was more like a plain salmon salad. As for dessert, a trolley came into the room and we were able to pick from several items. I chose the profiterole(cream puff filled with pastry cream and covered in this thick chocolate custard). Wow that was like the best thing I’ve ever ate. My husband got some sort of tart which I found a bit dry. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with any of the flavors we had for dinner, but surely enjoyed my profiterole.
