The location is great and looks clean and bright. Right inside a shopping center. There is a Bar Atlantic, which is part of the store located for you to eat in. Look for it. You can get some good eats there. They have a good pastry selection inside this store as well. I like shopping at this store. Much larger than most of the carrefour express and simply market in the area.

I love the location of this supermarket, hidden under Gae Aulenti Square(where the new Unicredit tower is). Great for those working in the area or simply those going back home from Porta Garibaldi train/metro station. The architecture of the underground spaces is really convenient, there’s a big parking space under the supermarket(you get 1 hour free parking if you stamp your parking ticket at the supermarket’s cash registers) and there are elevators and escalators everywhere, even an underground passage that takes you to the main entrance of the train station. The supermarket is the typical Esselunga layout: entrance to the fruit & veggies section, then current offers’ shelves, fridges of dairy products, and so on. The only thing I don’t like is this fixed path: if you are at the bread section(at the end of the path) and you forgot the tomatoes, you have to follow the path all the way back since there are no shortcuts to get back to the fruit and veggies section(well, there is one but it’s always closed), however, no biggie since the supermarket is not thaat huge. Prices at Esselunga are not super-convenient but the quality is excellent, fruit and veggies are neatly arranged, colorful, clean and shiny(and we all know women are attracted to shiny objects!), the deli dishes and other products are inviting, and my favorite, the seafood section is great, super-fresh products, perfectly cleaned and the guys there even give you advice on how to cook what you buy. I love the«pronto-spesa» option: with your Esselunga card you can request a kind of bar-code reader with which you can scan bar codes and add up your purchases as you stroll through the aisles, then when you’re done adding products you can go to the specific automated registers and pay quickly — it saves so much time! The only cons are: a) the frozen goods section is smallish and so is the ethnic foods section(only one kind of coconut milk and it’s often unavailable), b) staff inside the supermarket is nice and helpful but the girls at the customer service are rude.
