Unico Milano

The starters buffet was great, very artistic and delicious. Good view and services, but the food is just ok. A good place to enjoy a night with Milano landscape as background. A special experience that worth for once.

Sunday evening family dinner. Arrival is very unpleasant. Difficult to find, parking is far, entrance to the building is in the middle of a building site. Then the elevator is closed, and one has to use the internal phone to beg for access… One person at a time!
Once upstairs (20^th floor) the view is pretty. One can still make out the disarray of the on-​going constructions, but in the distance the city is lit up. The décor is very classy, large tables perhaps hindering private conversations.
Nibbles served with drinks are a nice touch, although presented pretenciously. Tasty if a bit salty.
We had starter, first course and a main course. The gamberi were so-​so, disappointingly sweetish with mandarin infusion, but yhe vitello tonnato was excellent and innovative, with a light foam instead of the classic mayo. The white bean soup was light and tasty. As a main course, we tried the Pluma of spanish pork, nicely confite with an unusual consistency, and the beef tagliata — not quite what I’d expect for a tagliata — rather a thick cut roastbeef, very tender.
With coffee, nice chocolates.
Unpleasant touch: a visit to the bathroom is without toilet paper (no-​one went tomcheck since lunch?)…
I have come to expect more than a view and better from Michelin restaurants.

Very interesting. This is a very modern, sleek restaurant at the top of a new skyscraper on the edge of Milan. Even the taxi driver had a bit of a time finding it!
Food is good, but is bordering on the international, not what I look for when dining in Italy. Service is excellent, and the view is superb. Would recommend it if you are looking to impress and/​or are on an expense account. Otherwise, you have a lot of other great options in Milano.
