Juste parfait!

I have said it before, and I will say it again. I am a lucky, LUCKY woman to have the husband that I do. Not only is he just generally awesome, but he knows me better than I know myself. As a surprise in Italy, he decided to give me a present. He knows, that I don’t care about fancy purses or shoes, I care about FOOD. And the more bizarre the food, the better(molecular gastronomy is my jam. I would eat food topped with foam all day every day if I could). We had a reservation at Oliver Glowig for one of our last nights in Rome. I was THRILLED! A 2 Michelin star restaurant?! I have never experienced this before! I but on my fancy dress and heels and we headed out for the meal of a lifetime. The restaurant is in a beautiful hotel on the lower level. If it had been day, we would have seen a glorious garden area through their floor to ceiling glass windows. The ambiance is formal, very minimal(white and black) and gorgeous. We went with the tasting menu and did the wine pairings(when in Rome!). I would bore you to death with all the different food I ate, but I can tell you that every single bite was better than the bite before, and that is really saying something! Every single plate was a work of art and I felt like I had died and gone to foodie heaven. The service was impeccable and friendly. And the entire experience is one that I will never forget. We also had the privilege of meeting Chef Glowig as he was in the restaurant that night. He very graciously went around to all the tables asking how the meal was and chatting with each patron. Seriously, one of the best nights of my life and I would HIGHLY recommend that if you are looking for an earth-shattering, mind-blowing food experience — then this is the place to go.

This is a great venue with the well deserved 2 Michelin stars. If you want a peaceful, elegant environment, and a great setting in an outside garden, this restaurant is a candidate when you visit Rome or its surroundings… The food and service were what you would expect… Ergo, there is no need to waste time on platitudes. However, here is what stood out: The wine list was detailed and thought through, and was not your typical trophy wine list with insane prices. Yes, of course, your typical Petrus and first growth wines were there. I was more impressed with the rare, small producers at really good prices. Also, the tea(from herbs cut in front of you at the table) was EPIC. Worth the visit just for the tea service. The restaurant is excellent and is also amazing value for being what it is(and where it is).

My experience at Oliver Glowig could not have been better. The local wine pairings they selected worked well. Each course tasted fantastic and surpassed expectations. This 2 Michelin restaurant is not as elegant or high brow as the 3-star La Pergola, and their view of the pool area, beautiful as it is, will never match a view of Rome. As it is, I highly recommend this place.

We came for dinner on Christmas and had the fixed menu(for which we had to put down a 50% deposit by bank transfer at the time of reservation). The food was pretty good although for me, the only memorable part was dessert, a panettone panna cotta that was delicious yet surprisingly light. The rest(amuse bouche, duck ravioli in broth, lamb with artichoke, spiced wine granita palate cleanser) were good but not particularly special. So why only 2 stars? Both my sister and I got food poisoning from this dinner. But at least the fact that we couldn’t eat for almost two days helped us counterbalance the calorie consumption from this dinner…

Service here was efficient and friendly. It felt a bit stuffy at first but things lightened up as the evening went on. We were seated on the patio next to the pool so we got to enjoy the views and the mild summer breeze. Everything went smoothly but a couple things to note. Normally when the waiters drip a bit of wine on white table clothes I have seen other places put a napkin on top to cover it. We also ordered a coke which never came. Other than that, we really enjoyed our meal and the delicious food. By the time we finished dessert we barely had room for the extra treats they provided but we somehow made room. We were stuffed to the max after but it was all worth it. They also sent us home with a goodie bag of petit fours. ham and fried zucchini crostini at Oliver Glowig bruschetta veal cheek and terrine anchovies and its sauce with asparagus and ricotta cheese tortelli pasta with spices oxtail in licorice sauce pasta spirals with cheese, black pepper and sea urchin «cinta Senese» suckling pig Crunchy leg, terrine, escarole with olives and capers and lemon with chilli pepper jelly turbot and goose foie gras escalope with lentils, cocoa bean and Barolo vinegar jelly canoli with ricotta «annurca» apple tart with sour cream potato donuts and various other petit fours

We enjoyed a late dinner at Oliver Glowig who prepared an inspired tasting menu including tortellini stuffed with braised oxtail in an anise/vanilla /cinnamon sauce that knocked us over with its originality and sheer deliciousness. Dessert included a sublime hot potato donut dusted with sugar with vanilla cream for dipping. Professional and friendly service. A chef to watch.
