Never have I been to a restaurant where I felt so at home. This restaurant was not only the best Italian meal I’ve ever had, but also the best food experience I have ever had. The food was as good as my grandmothers(the highest compliment an Italian can give). Probably because it’s menu is an authentic representation of the Abruzzo region where she was born. The restaurants décor is what an American would like to think an Italian kitchen would look like; complete with hanging pig legs of prosciutto, baskets of vegetables and what seemed like a never ending cask of montepulciano d’abruzzo. The staff treated us as family; they’d joke and discuss Italy with us, drink wine and describe the foods we were about to receive. At the end of a dish the chef would often come out with the pot or pan and let us finish off whatever he had left. I’ve enjoyed this set meal both times I’ve visited Italy and it was equally special each time. I can’t wait to go again.

Nice little place. The chicken and vegetables were fantastic and I liked how they served it in the pot. My husband’s dinner never came and the waiter looked blindly at him when we inquired about this missing meal. If you go here, get the all inclusive meal. Much more of an experience.

super rude host/owner. walked by on a saturday afternoon and stepped into the restaurant, not knowing that the host was chatting outside with patrons. i hear him mutter stupido then step into the restaurant to chat with me. he clearly did not think i would speak or understand a latin language. i asked for an english menu, looked at it for a few minutes, and the rude host never came back to discuss with me.

Best meal in Rome. It was so good we had to go back on out last night of our honeymoon. The service was tremendous, far better than any other restaurant in Rome. It was a true Italian dining experience. Even the locals rave about this place! Make it a point to visit this truly special place.

On our first trip to Rome and dined here last night. The service was fantastic and the food was great. Menu is in English and all we had including the vino was top rate. Recommend to anyone in Rome that is hungry. You will not walk out that way.

Probably better for lunch than dinner, but the food was terrific. The atmosphere left a little to be desired, they could have had a little background music to improve the feel. We also had a tough time getting and hanging on to the oil and vinegar, it seemed like they only had one set. The food was very good and the price is very affordable, but the best part was the charcuterie plate(see picture). The brought a vast selection of meats and you could slice and sample any and all and then slice away at your favorites… could almost be a meal in itself with a salad or cheese. Don’t expect romance or a great atmosphere, just good food at a great price!

Located a 10 – 15 minute walk away from the Marriott Grand Flora on Via Sicilia. Piccolo Abruzzo is a smaller restaurant located below street level. It appears to be a family run establishment that is english language friendly. Service here is friendly and the owner even thanked us when we finished our meal. Prices are also on the reasonable side, having paid about $ 68 for two pasta, a meat dish, bread fee, and bottled water. Yes they charge a bread fee, but to make things better, they give you a free slice of prosciutto with your bread! It’s also worth noting that they have an antipasti bar, though it costs 10Euro to enjoy that. We passed on the bar. So what did we have? For our pasta dishes, I ordered the bucatini ‘alla amatriciana, while my wife ordered the black truffle risotto. The dishes are served in the pans they are cooked in. My wife’s risotto was good… rich & creamy with good truffle flavor, though it isn’t fresh truffle. My amatriciana, on the other hand, was ok. We had better at two other restaurants that I will review later. For our secondi, we decided to split a veal saltimboca. It looked a bit well done, but it was tender and delicious! The butter and sage really helped to tie this dish together. At $ 68, this restaurant definitely isn’t one of the cheaper options out there, but is a good one. And in the Via Veneto region, it really isn’t that bad. Would I go back? Probably, I just won’t order the amatriciana again!

WHENINROME… One of my absolute favorite! Great family run restaurant with fresh traditional dishes served right from the pan. Meals are all inclusive, so i recommend you come with empty belly and expect to stay a while. You’ll want to indulge in every portion from antipasti — dessert(at least 4 –5 courses) Skip the traditional touristy spots filled with long list menus and stop by this underground cuccina and let the chef work his magic. You will not be disappointed!

This is another typical beautiful place that I really suggest to visit!!! The quality of the food is super and absolutely fresh, you can taste mozzarella, puntine, trippe, beans coocked in a typical way and obviously any kind of pasta(I suggest pasta alla gricia or pasta all amatriciana). The owner is really nice and the price is really good. Try it

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere. A wonderful appetizer bar. You almost don’t need an actual meal, but don’t miss the Cacio e Pepe, served in frying pans. Yum!

An absolute favourite place of ours in Rome is Ristorante Piccolo Abruzzo(via Sicilia 237, tel 390642820176), where for a set price of around 42 euro per head, you can enjoy an almost endless parade of local dishes brought out to you at the chef’s fancy — there’s no choice, but it’s all good and fresh and you won’t leave hungry. The menu changes daily, but you’ll start with a hefty plate of cured meats and antipasto, followed by at least 1 pasta, possibly a risotto, a meat and veg dish and, of course, dolce. I’m clearly a little hazy on the details(last visit in 2009), but I don’t forget a friendly plate — this is good quality, homely cooking in a laid back, fun atmosphere. We easily finished the quaffable bottle of red on our table(which will be readily refilled when empty — also included in the set price), and were treated to digestivos of choice after our meal. The atmosphere is busy and festive — no tourists spotted on our last visit, but we were surrounded by lots of large tables of Italians. I believe they may do a cheaper lunch option. Highly recommended.

Highly recommendable restaurant. Seats just 40 people. No menue. The staff serves all the kitchen can deliver at that day. You will be positively surprised. Great italian food. No tourist-trap. No air condition. Ceiling fan only.

Sunday. I was so starving. Strolling around with my wife along via Veneto and piazzas a lot, all morning long. Decided to check this indication out. Small trattoria, with some specialties from Abruzzo. A big table of an Italian family celebrating, and we’re still lucky to get a table.Good. First, a Huuuge antipasti della casa with all sorts of salamii(all you can eat), cheeses(pecorino, mussarela di bufala), 02 kinds of coppa, bruschetta, polenta, bread, vegetables… 03 primi piati(matricianna, caccio e peppe, alla rabiata), all well served and made, cooked al dente.Perfectas. 01 secondi(bistecca alla tagliatta), very good, and cooked medium to perfection. No deserts, thanks :) All of this, plus 01 large Peroni beer bottle + 01 L of house wine(very good-montepulcciano di abruzzo) + water, made a 86 euro bill. Our best Rome lunch so far. Couldn’t eat anything but gelati after this! Highly recommended!
