A decent place to check out okonomiyaki. It was unique for sure. There is no ac which made for a hot evening in front of a flat top. The chef was super quiet and did not smile. The food itself was decent – I just think okonomiyaki is not our thing. The yakisoba looked amazing – I will say! The chef was friendlier to locals than us(& damnit I’m half Japanese)

Really cosy and funny place to eat and have a beer. The food is prepared right in front of you and the people in the restaurant are really friendly. When I was here the place was crowded and people were drinking and chatting with everyone. Social place and good place to sit downstairs at the bar/cooking plate.

Chabana Kyoto is an easy walk from Hotel New Hankyu, where we are staying. There are two floors of seating, but we opted to wait a short bit for downstairs seats that were filled with a couple from Italy, a couple from Poland, and three Japanese men. Although a small restaurant, by North American standards, you didn’t feel cramped as the areas are efficiently spaced. The server presented us with English menus from which we ordered edamame, beer, chicken yakisoba and their original okonomiyaki = flavour explosion! Prepared with mad skills, right in front of us, this chef easily multitasked to create delicious fare! We would definitely come back again!

I was beat. We had walked for hours and quite tired and hungry. We already chose this place as it was close to our hotel(Capsule Ryokan). It was a bit empty but believe there were some folks in the upstairs room. Now that being said, it’s great they have an English Menu and also take credit card. They quickly took our order and our chef did his magic. He got a mixture from the people in the back and put the slices of bacon on the top. Then when ready he flipped it and shaped it to the round awesomeness. He then started on our yakisoba. He took the veggies and started there first. Then he took strips of beef and seasoned everything and covered it with a metal dome. Then when it was done he added the bonito and it was perfection. The yakisoba wasn’t anything special to be honest. But that okonomiyaki was pretty delish. I wish I had a beer to wash it all down. Overall a great way to get my okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and teppanyaki experience!
