Nakau Shichijō Shinmachi

Bön marché, ce restaurant ouvert 24h/​24h est vraiment pratique. Les donburi sont bons, j’ai moins apprécié les karaage.

We ate breakfast here 4 times and lunch once during our stay in Kyoto and there isn’t a thing I would change about Nakau. Good value, clean, efficient, delicious, plenty of choices on the menu, complimentary green tea = one happy diner.

Fast food can come in handy — especially when there is a typhoon outside and your wife is under the weather in the room.
We had one of such days around the Gion Matsuri festival time period while in Kyoto.
Being the good husband that I am, I decided to pick up some «Don’s» (rice bowls) from the 24-​hour comfort joint named «Nakau» which was in walking distance from our hotel.
The setup of this fast food joint was like none I had ever encountered. Ticket machines for ordering, beer hall style tables, and complementary green tea in large containers.
After handing the order for a Katsu Don and Double Unagi (Eel) Don to the lone employee, I watched him race back to the exposed kitchen which wasn’t much more than a range fryer and oven.
Within a few minutes, our order was up and prepared in a to-​go bag suitable for the torrential rain outside.
How was it? Delicious and flawless for the price. I’m no unary expert but that serving was fresh flavorful and gone in less than five minutes.
While a 24-​hour quick-​cook joint may not be the first culinary adventure you decide to take while in Kyoto, I’d say a trip to Nakau would be a well received pit stop.

I like coming to this Nakau for a quick bite. The food is dirt cheap! Seriously, it is dirt cheap! It is open ²⁴⁄₇ and only 5 minutes walk away from the JR Kyoto station. The ticket dispenser menu has no English, but just look at the pictures on the colour monitor to order if you don’t understand Japanese. I like their gyūdon, they give you a lot of beef. I also like their braised duck meat udon which is only ¥530. I come here for a quick bite when I’m too tired to explore other eateries in the area. It was convenient as it was close to where I was staying and the service was fast. Highly recommended!
