This is the C & C Curry chain location at Kichijoji Station, near Inokashira Park and Studio Ghibli Museum. If you are a travelling tourist, like me, and are looking for a «morning curry» fix versus a regular diner atmosphere. I recommend trying a curry breakfast from a place that is cheap and specializes in curry specifically. Since they have omelet rice and curry as well, that might be a more familiar curry breakfast item. C & C Curry Shop is an automated ticket dispensing type restaurant, a version dine-in on foot, Japanese fast-food. You pay cash or credit at the ticket vendor machine; menu items are clearly noted with cost and photo. Then, you take the ticket and pass it to a server who will quickly bring your food to where you are seated. On the table are ginger and pickled onion toppings and a jug of ice water. I really wish that we had places like this in the United States, but I could say that about almost any business that is in Japan. The service is friendly and lightning speed, just as fast as it takes to ladle some curry over rice and pass the plate. If you have ever seen a Japanese businessman destroy a plate of curry rice at high speed, you will know why I am calling it «fast-food.» The most popular dish here is also the cheapest, which is just curry next to rice on a large plate. That will only set you back about 300 to 400 yen(USD$ 3 – 4). Second most popular is the omelet rice, which is rice inside a folded omelet with curry on the side. There are also various toppings you can add for an additional charge, like; katsu, egg, veggies. All items are very inexpensive with quality ingredients, something that Japan has mastered— even at the fastest of fast food chains.
