This branch of Kinguemon ramen 金久右衛門 阿波座店 * キングエモン アワザテン is located right next to Awaza station, exit # 9 and happened to be very close to where I was staying. They specialize in shoyu(soy sauce ramen) and they have won the title of #1 best Shoyu Ramen in Osaka 3 years running. So for those who are too used to tonkotsu(pork bone) broth ramen, may or may not appreciate it as much. There is no English on the menu but plenty of pictures to point and choose. Some of the stuff speak minimal English, but it is actually quite easy to navigate. Plus you don’t have to deal with vending machine tickets. The best part? All of the add on toppings are very reasonably priced. 50 yen for a perfectly cooked soft boiled egg? And tasty? Bring dat chit on!!! I know this is going to sound like a broken record, but I will go so far out as to say this place may be considered run of the mill or average in town. They are efficient, friendly. Two chefs who double up as cashier and busboys on the first night, and one chef, one waitress last night(who was the cashier). Yaki gyoza– very solid especially for first night meal in town. Only Osho Gyoza at Dotonbori trumped this. Already a very high standard compared to Northern California. What I really enjoyed was the ability to customize your own gyoza dip sauce. Chili oil, sweet vinegar, crush your own garlic, soy sauce. Then suddenly Yu Raku San Mateo’s gyoza sauce doesn’t come close(but they make the best gyoza in town in SF Bay Area thus far). Ramen — Loved the dark black bean soy sauce broth(a touch salty) with thick noodles, and the gold soy sauce with thin noodles that has a refreshingly light chicken stock. This is how a good shoyu ramen should taste! It’s cold over here, so a bowl of this stuff is wonderful… kind of like how I feel about Phở Y 1 in San Jose. Over here, any cheap bowl of ramen is good. I cannot have ramen anymore back in SF Bay Area after this, otherwise it will ruin the experience. No lines No hipsters No douchebaggery reasonable prices(and in the case of adding an egg as a topping, amounted to less than 50 cents US$ based on exchange rates, hell I could have asked for a dozen and YOLO that shit up) Chashu perfection too. Just look at the pictures… how can this not be five stars?

I ordered the gold soup ramen. The soup was good, not too salty, looks oily but not really, and noodles were just right. They were quick. Price is reasonable.
