We needed one last meal in Osaka before running and we wanted a traditional nice breakfast. And this was it. Order from a vending machine, have your meal brought to you, I got a cheap but nice noodle dish and it was an excellent way to start a day. It’s never going to be gourmet, the space isn’t decorated at all, and it’s not even that clean. But it is tasty as all get out! Come here for a quick, nice meal for sure.

Matsuya is CHEAAAAP… and the food quality is excellent. Wait, I will repeat that again later. In any larger Japanese city, you will find *three popular diner chains making a triangular pattern around a busy street. While they are all cheap and open 24 hours, there are of course differences that make them all unique. In the war of Donburi Diners, Matsuya is only my #2 go-to. From my experience, Matsuya establishments are the cleaner of the three and have the best service. Matsuya is a Japanese diner chain, owned by Matsuya Foods Co., with over 833 locations in Japan and China. It is easy to see with three large primary color spots and conji on the front. Seasonal menu posters are changed out between lunch and dinner rush. Ordering is done on a machine that accepts cash only, then hand the ticket to the waitress. The food will quickly appear, nice and neat, on a tray. Condiments are on the table; including salad dressings, three different flavors or soy sauce, sesame seeds, and ginger. In Japan, there are not many«breakfast houses» available, so people tend to stick with the 24 hour diners that are open during breakfast and also serve breakfast foods. You can eat a hearty breakfast set meal here for around 400 yen(USD $ 4.00) that includes, soft boiled egg, rice, beef and onions, miso soup, pickles, salad, one piece of sausage, and laver. The food is cheap and excellent quality. However, don’t expect anything out of the ordinary. So, I only come here for breakfast. For lunch or dinner, I prefer to go elsewhere. Since other places are actually open for lunch and dinner. * This is Unilocal,so we are not allowed to name names when making comparisons.
