The Seventh Art Theater / Dainana-geijutsu-gekijou

If you walk in the lively downtown, Sakaemachi commercial mall, you will find this movie theater which is located in the building with a conspicuously outstanding bowling pin. An acquaintance of mine recommended a movie entitled «Minnano Gakko (everyone’s school)» in the blog. It is now shown in this theater. The reason why I review this theater is that I hope as many people as possible will see the movie.
The stage of the movie is a public primary school in Osaka city. In the school such students who cannot control their feelings well and use violence on others or developmentally handicapped children who need special support in education learn in the same classroom with ordinary students. Local citizens watch children affectionately and expert teachers support new teachers, at the same time children, teachers, parents, and local citizens make the school for everyone, considering others’ problems and circumstances.
When I did an educational volunteer activity after school in a junior high school of my city, I had been sometimes annoyed by noisy students. So I consulted the vice principal how to deal with such students. He replied to me, «Have such students get away from the room!» I don’t think it is an appropriate way. I wanted none to leave the room. So many men so many minds. Some are agile, others are meek, some are considerate, and others are selfish… I hoped all the students would stay in the same class room.
I remember the incident that I interviewed a young strong-​spirited female doctor for women’s patients alone. She said to me, «It is impossible for those who are meek to become more active.» I was deeply moved by her remark. If someone is bullied, they tend to say to him or her, «Be strong!» Is this world where the weak are victims of the strong? I think unsustainable is such a society that people can’t live unless they are strong.
I want persons particularly who climb the corporate ladders or make a success in entrepreneurial world to see this movie and to realize it. I want them to spare a part of time to satisfy their ambition and greed for time to pay an attention to our society.
It was a developmentally handicapped enlightenment week from April 2 through 8. What makes the persons with handicap difficult to be recognized hard to live seems to be not in their handicapped characteristics but in the lack of understanding or bias by surrounding people.
The movie is now or is going to be screened in the theaters of all around the country. Unfortunatelly it is over in Tokyo and Nagoya. If you request the production company, it will be screened in a school or group. Check the website,
今回は日本語と英語の両方でレビューします。
まずは英語から。
十三の繁華街、サカエマチ商店街にあり、大きなボーリングピンが一際目立つビルの中のこちらの映画館。この映画館で現在上映中の「みんなの学校」を知人がブログで推薦しており、一人でも多くの人に観てもらえればと願ってレビューしました。
大阪市内の公立小学校が舞台のこの映画では、感情を上手くコントロールできず、つい友達に暴力を振るってしまう子や特別支援教育の対象になる発達障害の子が同じ教室で学んでいます。そこには新任の先生をベテランの先生が、子どもたちを地域の人たちが見守り、サポートする、そして児童や先生や保護者や地域の人たちが互いの抱える問題に思いを馳せながら、みんなの学校を作っているのです。
近所の中学校で放課後教育ボランティアをしていた時に、時々騒がしい生徒たちに悩まされていたことがありました。教頭にどのように対処したらよいか相談すると、「そんな生徒たちは追い出してください！」との答えが返ってきました。私はそれが適切な方法だとは思いません。私は誰一人として教室を出て行ってほしくありませんでした。十人十色という言葉があります。活発な子もいれば、大人しい子もいて、思いやりのある子もいれば、自己中心的な子もいる…。もちろん人間、相性があって、合う人もいれば、合わない人もいる。仲が良くても悪くても、誰一人として排除することなく、私はすべての生徒たちに同じ教室で学んでほしかったのです。
以前、女性外来で働く女性医師にインタビューをした時、キツそうな外見の若い女性医師の「大人しい人にもっと積極的に行きましょう！」と言ってもできない話ですし…という発言に感動したことを思い出しました。いじめを受けた時に、「もっと強くなれ！」という言葉を時々耳にします。弱肉強食なのでしょうか？ 強くなければ生きていけない社会は持続可能性がないと私は考えます。
私はこの映画を特に社会的に成功した人たちに観てもらいたいし、知ってもらいたい。野望や欲望を満たす時間の一部を社会に関心を持つ時間のために割いて欲しいのです。
4月2日～8日は発達障害啓発週間でした。目に見えづらい障害を抱える人たちを生き辛くさせているのは、その障害特性が原因ではなく、周囲の無理解や偏見によるものが大きいのではないでしょうか。
