I got it in my head that I wanted to have an amazing, beautiful fruit parfait during my trip to Tokyo and in doing a little research decided if I wanted the best, I should consider going to a place that was associated with one of those hyper-fancy fruit stores. That’s what brought me to Nishimura. They are a seller of extremely high quality fruits designed to be given as gifts. Their fruit store in Shibuya includes a café on the second floor where you can buy all kinds of amazing, artistic fruit creations. I ordered a giant fruit parfait and my husband got hotcakes with fresh fruit. Pros: amazingly gorgeous food. An art in itself. Tasty food. Napkins on the table. Polite, professional service. Cons: my parfait came out *way* before my husband’s hotcakes. I’d basically finished my food by the time his arrived. The fruit was a little under-ripe. I guess that’s the preferred style for some, so the slight tartness of the fruit contrasts nicely with the sweetness of the cream, chocolate or other sugary ingredients, but I prefer boldly ripe fruit. Napkins(as seems to be the case in Tokyo/Japan) felt to be made of 50% paper and 50% plastic, providing little absorption. My dessert was gorgeous, but I think my husband’s might have been tastier. Before I left Nishimura I browsed their fruit store downstairs. I hemmed and hawed over whether or not I should buy a $ 15 apple(the largest apple I’d ever seen in my life) and finally did buy one, knowing that if I didn’t, I’d wonder about it for another 5 or more years just like I did on my first visit to Japan when I didn’t buy the fancy fruit. Anyway, I got back to our hotel and carefully cut and cored the apple. Hubby and I each ate half and we both agreed that it was a very fine apple. That said, I also bought a big giant fancy apple at a local discount store for about $ 5 and it was almost as good as the one from Nishimura, so ultimately I don’t think I’d spend 3x the price for an apple that wasn’t 3x better than the discount store fancy apple in the future. I’m still glad I did it once though. So I know. Nishimura offered some very beautiful strawberries while we were there, including strawberries that were white colored. Singly, these cost $ 10 for a very large one, and I did not try any. Living in South California where the majority of the agricultural fields are fresh strawberries, I couldn’t bring myself to buy them in Japan when I was pretty certain they would be slightly under-ripe… Highly recommend their café. If you need a beautiful fruit for a gift, I’d recommend them for that too, but if you just want fruit for yourself, you should probably go elsewhere and save some cash.

Stumbled across this place after a long day of shopping in Shibuya. AHHH, best cream melon soda ever! Also, the parfaits were perfection — the perfect combination of yogurt and fruits and ice cream. The portion was pretty big so my biggest regret was that I wasn’t able to try more options :(
