We found this spot thanks to Unilocal when we were trying to find food near our hotel in Shinjuku. They have one of the best English menus we came across during our travels and were very friendly to us(as everyone is in Tokyo). It’s a very fun restaurant on the inside with a surfer shop theme and has a good vibe of many locals eating there. I loved their beef curry. The curry in the mid spice range definitely packed a punch of spice but also was layered with deep flavors. They really care about the food they are making here and I definitely recommend it if you are looking for curry in Shinjuku.

Thanks to Unilocal I found this place in Shinjuku. It is a chain so don’t think you stumbled into something unique and one of a kind in Tokyo. Their idea of a «non-smoking section» is a table to the left of all the other tables where people smoke so heads up if you are not a fan of cigarettes. The food pricing is decent and the portions are very filling. Make sure you ask for a slice of avocado with your meal, made a great flavor booster. the vibe is very mellow and the décor is kitschy Hawaiian, it looked very popular with the young working crowd for after work fun.

You might have watched those really awesome World Order music videos(YouTube it!) and think to your self, Japan is straight forward and modern and clean. All those expectations will be totally shattered as soon as you walk into Mouyan Carry Dining. The decorations inside are incredibly tropical. Wooden tables, colorful splashes everywhere, a giant wall of manga, and a disco ball. It’s quite strange, yet one of the unique things that makes Japan cool. Although the restaurant isn’t at all close to Shinjuku station, we still waited a good 20 minutes on a Sunday evening outside of the restaurant. Once we entered, we were amazed by the interior and even though everyone says this is a «Hole in the Wall», it’s not. The menu is pretty expansive, especially the Japanese version, but the English one will have the highlights that you’re here for — curry. I went with the beef curry, which comes with a pretty dinky amount of meat + a thick curry sauce. The sauce is delicious. The side dishes(potato, pickles, rice) are unlimited, and I really enjoyed the pickles especially — help yourself to them at the back of the restaurant. Service is attentive and credit cards are accepted.

Could be the set of a Quentin Tarantino flick with waves of soft Hawaiian music flowing through the shelves of Manga, around the disco ball and bouncing off the wooden tables. The food matches the aesthetic goodness. This Japanese curry is sweet, not spicy, and despite how full you feel you will keep on forking it in. Or chop sticking it in, we are in Japan after all. It’s delicious and the environment is super cool. There’s a potato and pickles bar while you wait for you mains, free of charge. Happy bellies for everyone.

Really good japanese curry. HOLE in the wall, but dinner some times has a long wait. They have a bahama theme going. Expect bahama/beach music.
