An amazing boutique by an amazing women who is an inspiration to many in Halifax. If you’re in Halifax definitely check out this gorgeous designer shop(please note her pieces are affordable so don’t be frightened by the sound of the word«designer»). Beautiful clothing made right here in Nova Scotia :)

There’s just something fantastically big city about popping into a boutique for a quick visit and then being offered a glass of champagne by the owner(Lisa) as she tells you all about how she’s going down to hang out with the celebrities at the Golden Globes. Awesome, right? I felt like I was in an episode of Sex and the City — you know, before the terrible movies. Turbine is bringing high fashion to Atlantic Canada in a way that will entice fickle fashionistas and budget shoppers alike. With some stunning pieces available for $ 50(I’m thinking specifically about the signature Turbine belt), it’s all about the accessible accessories! They don’t have menswear so I didn’t dive too deep into the product but the store is gorgeous, dynamic and fun to shop in whether you’re looking for something specific, or just appreciate beautiful things. Take a peak so you can look back and remember where Halifax’s hot fashion scene all began and be sure to keep an eye out for their happenin’ collection shows that are not be missed.

Lisa Drader-Murphy is the sole designer and creator of Turbine fashions. A line that places earthy, organic flow amongst structurally sound pieces, Drader-Murphy makes looks for women of all body types with an eco friendly mindset. This boutique was not one on my radar, but as I pursued a waterfront jaunt just recently, what seemed like a handful of exciting venues have come to my attention. Turbine stands out as one of great quality garments and perceptive eye. I noticed lots of original designs that could flatter both the petite and the shapely girls. Fabrics and craftsmanship appeared wonderfully rendered, and apparently many of the styles are made with vintage fabrics from the 40s, 50s and 60s. The clothes are all produced at Drader-Murphy’s studio, which just happens to be a 150 year old apple barn in the city. Local loca! Sounds good to me… There were many items I found absolutely charming. Turbine even has its own line of mineral make-up for sale. Brushes and cosmetics with a higher price-tag, it looks to be of high caliber… although I haven’t tried anything first hand. I was delighted to see a few jars of vintage buttons for sale as well. Buy 1 or 2 or a huge handful– they are priced individually, and have some real goodies! My single purchase for the day ended up being a pair of black seamless tights. I’ve been needing a new pair, and at a reasonable $ 29, these one-size-fits-all were, indeed, the perfect fit. I left feeling happy to have ventured in, and will continue to check in. The salesgirl could’ve been a little more helpful and excited about giving me the down-low, however, I do sympathize with the woes of retail, and maybe the book she was reading was at an ultimate climax. None the less, she did give me a few tidbits of info and maintained a friendly disposition. Turbine is a well visioned line that exudes both luxury and understated designs. Much love to the vintage fabrics and feminine flair. I will be back.
