The Black Dog Village Pub & Bistro

First time here, very warm and cozy atmosphere. It was a beautiful fall day so we opted for the patio. I had the Black Dog original burger and it came with fries, my husband had the meatloaf burger with fries. Both meals were well seasoned and generous portions. The service was fast and friendly. Definately will be coming back for more

If we have a happy place, this is it. A great pub with a large selection of craft beer on draught, and a phenomenal selection of single malt whiskey.
An approachable yet refined menu, you can get pub classics — fish and chips, burgers, curry, various fried things — but also a lot of other unique dishes.
The patio is awesome for people watching and drinking beer. The inside of the pub is also really cool, with an authentic pub feel.
If you’re in Bayfield, you’ve got to try this place.

I only came here for a beer. Upon arrival you are asked to wait to be seated however my
Boyfriend and I went straight to the bar for a refreshment :) the atmosphere is really nice here they keep the door open with a nice beautiful breeze coming in (this is August in Canada). The only negative things I can say is they took too long to hand us a beer menu and the bartenders do not or have not in a long time wiped off the bar table area, which is a no no in the bar/​pub/​bistro scene. Anyways other than that my beer is tasting good, the bartenders are rather knowledgeable of their beer selection and they have quite a large alcohol menu.
My boyfriend has said their burgers here are phenomenal as he has eaten here before.
Definitely a cute place to come to if you are ever in the Bayfield area of Canada.

Visited on a Sunday for dinner. We had the Jamaican patties and scotch egg for appetizers. They were pretty good. I had the veggie tostada for entrée. I found it kind of bland. It was served with some crema and salsa verde. It would have been nice if it was a little spicy. It just seemed like something I could make at home and get the same result. Overall the service was slow. We were not greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant. The hostess was helping another table and instead of saying «I’ll be right with you» she just kind of stared at us. As well, it took awhile for the server to come to our table initially. These things are more forgivable when the restaurant is busy but it was certainly not. Overall our visit was alright. I would return because it’s the only good restaurant in the area.

The patio at The Black Dog is a must. They have a diverse and creatively crafted menu where EVERYTHING we tried was amazing. The beer list is incredible and huge. The service was fast and friendly and we will go back a million times. Support this business!

We went for dinner around 6:30pm and the and patio was quite full but after waiting at the bar for about 10−15min we got a seat on the patio. We ordered the pretzel appetizer (really good and comes with two) then I ordered a fettuccine with mushrooms and my bf ordered a burger. Overall, was good service, prices were a bit above average, but was a nice place for a casual dinner. I’d recommend this place for newcomers to Bayfield, as it was our first time in the Village.

I’ve been coming to the Black Dog for years. The food is great and they are accommodating of allergies. However, my most recent experience there was very discouraging and made me feel unwelcome. My friends and I were at a cottage for the weekend and had made a reservation ahead of time. When we arrived, there were several empty tables, yet we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant that clearly wasn’t ready for us (the hostess had to pull up a chair to the table). It seemed like we were sized up when we walked through the door and put at the worst available table because we were young. G

One of the best pubs I have been to in Canada, great food, great service and they make you feel like a local. Amazing selection of world beers and whiskey’s, Ted and his staff will have you feeling right at home. Tony & Victoria

The food here is great – and the atmosphere is great as well! Love those aspects tremendously. I have come here numerous times with friends when I visit the area.
I am a really upbeat person and it takes a lot to make me say something negative on a review, as I know how critical they are to businesses and negative things aren’t what you want to see. Mind you, I love so much about this place; however, there tends to be an «unwelcoming» attitude with the service staff. I feel like I am interrupting something or inconveniencing someone when I ask for a seat, have a question on the menu, etc. I always thought restaurants should be excited and pleased to seat customers – especially return customers — but why is it that I often feel like I walked up to a strangers house, knocked on their door, and asked them to cook me dinner? Increase the «friendly-​and-​welcome» and decrease the stuffiness and I think you’ll have 5 stars and a lot more customers.

Outstanding pub along a very charming main street in downtown Bayfield. This place is clearly well though through, from the authentic exterior to the scotch boxes lining the walls. You feel like you’re in Ireland. The meatloaf sandwich was outstanding. That and a glass of beer makes for a perfect lunch.
