I was introduced to this place by «This is where the Koreans go so it must be good». Three of us shared a combo meal for lunch — portions were huge(with unlimited side dishes) and price was good. No complaints about service either. Would definitely come back!

Here we ordered a combo A, my favourite of the menu for two people. It includes spicy Korean chicken, black bean sauce noodles, and spicy seafood noodles. I noticed they increased the price from $ 27.99 to $ 29.99 unfortunately. However, it was very filling and delicious. The side dishes were lacking though. The place was not too busy, felt comfortable and was very clean. The service was friendly and fast as the waitress was frequently checking in. Overall, I enjoyed the dinner time here.

Very delicious and filling meal! My friend and I got the Combo A which was $ 27.99. Its recommended for 2 – 3 people and was delicious! It comes with black bean noodle, spicy seafood noodle and sweet and sour chicken or pork of your choice. It also comes with a bowl of kimchi and pickled vegetables as appetizers. The chicken was super good and we enjoyed it a lot! The atmosphere was very relaxing and classy as it had classical music playing in a peacful surrounding. Would reccomend!

This place used to be the go to place, and by used to be I mean like ten years ago. I’m not sure if a lot of Korean people come here anymore but I’m pretty sure they don’t. Came here to check it out after 5+ years of not coming, and I could understand why we stopped coming. The food is not very good. Not sure how else to elaborate but if you’re in the area, there are definitely better places to get the same food. The service is ok. The atmosphere is ok. But that’s about it. I’d recommend going to the Korean place across from the old Extra Foods/Independent grocery store. Or even the Hannam food court does it better.(in my opinion).

It is expensive thou. Come here with friends and ordered Party Combo. The portion was small and taste is average. It isn’t a authentic Korean restaurant I would go for

I stopped by here because I was super hungry and parking at the plaza next door was bad. We ended up here and decided to give this place a try. We ordered the Korean Set 1 Menu. There were other sets to chose from as well. It was $ 17.99/person and consisted of 9 dishes. This was basically a dinner set menu. We had the opportunity to try a bit of everything. Food quality was average. Food presentation was alright. They were trying to present the food nicely and I appreciated their attempt. The server gave the name of each dish that arrived. The food was not necessarily authentic in the Korean sense. The worse dish was the Korean BBQ beef. The meat was sitting on a puddle of liquid. By far the worse bulgogi I have ever tried. I can taste the flavour was attempting to emulate bulgogi but the presentation and flavour was off. I think the strength of the restaurant is the non BBQ dishes. Service was fast. Items arrived shortly after we ordered. Server gave our bill when we buzzed her. Ambiance is a bit dark. The booth seats makes the restaurant seem smaller. Surprisingly there was a steady stream of customers. Overall, the experience was average. Their advantage is the plentiful plaza parking during the evenings.

We ordered their sweet and sour chicken which come with a hefty price tag of $ 17.99. The seasoning was excellent but after few bites, I thought that they smelled weird and bad. Like yucks. I couldn’t have it anymore and buzzed for the server.(really didn’t want to waste $ 18 for a plate of uneaten chicken right?) Anyway, it took two buzz to get him to our table after which he gave me a refusal and weird look when I asked him to bring the chicken back to the cook. I had to say twice with an increasing fury that the chicken smelled terrible before he unwillingly took the plate away. Later, he returned apologizing and explained that it was ammonia that caused the bad smell and that it was because of the cooking pan, not the chicken. STILL. WHYDOYOUUSESPOILTCOOKINGPANANDCHARGEME $ 18 for a plate of chicken? Really? The replaced chicken was really delicious, fresh and no smell. But I can’t get over the fact that you actually expect me to feel okay paying $ 18 for an ammonia smelling chicken. Also, the buzzer is useless. I still have to wait 15 minutes to get the bill(after buzzing for countless time). Hmm, no. The restaurant wasn’t even crowded at all. Seriously, ddoo gau bee?

This place was a great gem before. The food was awsome and the price was fair. But that all changed today. The service was horrible. Our dinner was served in the course of two hours. What was once in the menu has changed. We didnt get our bulgoghi dish nor our fried chicken dish. We will never come here again. Extremely disappointed.

I remember when this place used to be a hole in the wall. It was literally half the size it is now but that is going back a good 12 – 15 years. From what I can gather based on other Unilocalers, the ownership has changed over the years. Ddoo Gau Bee was always a place that my family came to for Jjang Myun(black bean noodles… Think spaghetti, but black bean sauce). Going back years and years ago, this was really the best place to go. Having to come out from Surrey to Coquitlam was always worth the trip since we knew what we were getting… Quality, Korean styled Chinese dishes. Now you may say, what? Korean styled Chinese dishes? Let me explain. Here, in Canada, we say, let’s go for Chinese. This, for the most part doesn’t really represent authentic Chinese food. What we really mean to say(unless we are actually going for real, authentic Chinese cuisine) is «let’s go for North American style Chinese food.» Likewise, when you see Korean styled Chinese food, it’s sort of the same thing. Food that has been adapted to match the palette of Koreans. Call it what you will, but there are few things that can satisfy a craving for some solid Jjang Myun(black bean noodles) and Kkampoongi(spicy fried chicken) or Tangsooyook(sweet and sour pork). Keep in mind it’s been at least a decade since I’ve been to this establishment, and the first thing that came to mind was how much the décor has improved over time. The service was fine, if a little slow at times. It took a bit of time to get our meals, but the standard by which this place should be judged was what we ordered. Jjang myun and Kkampoongi. How was it? To sum it up, it was delicious. I’ve sort of waffled over the past few years about where to go for Jjang myun but the kkampoongi here settles it. It’s quite crispy and flavourful and not overly spicy. It goes quite nicely with the noodles. The menu, is also quite big. I don’t ever recall it being this size when I used to come here as a kid, but I suppose there are options for those that want them. I know the next time I want some jjang myun and kkampoongi, I will be heading to Ddoo Gau Bee.

When you set out to do something, and put your heart into it and go all the way — you typically get the best results. But when you decide to go only halfway here, and halfway there… the results will be mixed. This exactly described Ddoo Gau Bee — because they’ve changed their menu completely. It USED to be more traditional Korean(you’re here for Korean food, after all, right?), with a bit of sushi on the menu, sure. But you’re not here for the sushi. It’s average at best. But now that they’ve changed the menu — they stripped out all the Korean dishes and replaced them with«Korean-style Chinese dishes». If I’m out for Chinese food — I’d head to a Chinese place. Not a Korean place which tries to cook Chinese food. Even the spicy tofu soup is *gone*. This place went from a fairly good Korean place to a place with(still)mediocre service, which serves a mediocre variation of what’s almost Chinese food. Now that we’re talking about service — it depends where you’re seated. If you’re in the«main» area where much of the crowd is seated… service is passable. But if you’re seated in what I refer to as the«jail» area(the other side) — you are largely forgotten and practically have to wave just to order. If you didn’t wave — they aren’t ever going to notice you. As a whole the service is spotty, and without their prized spicy deep-fried chicken dish(which was excellent when it used to exist), there is nothing really redeeming about Ddoo Gau Bee.

I love this place! When I travel to BC on business, I always make a point to eat at this place. They have a great sushi menu, great agadashi tofu, huge portions and low prices. LOVEIT

Came here as part of a group dinner for 8 a couple of months ago. The place was practically empty in the early evening on a Sun when we arrived. Not my idea since K food isn’t really my thing so I ended up ordering from among the sushi section on their menu hoping it’s something they have that can reasonably pass for sushi. I ordered 4 cones & a roll I think was a BC roll. The cones were ok & palatable but I’ve had better. The roll was a big mistake. Thinking it came in a standard size like the ones from Japanese restaurants these were huge like the size of futomaki & were packed full of disgusting artificial crab meat that was dry. Ended up giving it all to the rest of my friends to finish since they didn’t seem to mind. I think everyone felt the food was somewhat over priced.

* Home of reasonably priced Korean fusion cuisines * Their menu is comprised of Korean Chinese and Korean Japanese style dishes primarily, and feels very similar to some similar type of spots I have been to in Korea. Located in the heart of the Korean area of North Road, there is a lot of local competition, so this spot stacks up as just about a 3 star considering some of the other nearby options. Likely if it was in a small town it would be a 4 star though! I had the combination which included jajangmyeon, jjamppong, and fried rice. The jajangmyeon and jjamppong came in a nicely split bowl(Photo: ) to keep them separate from each other. The jajangmyeon had a nice flavour to the sauce without being overly salty like it sometimes can be. The noodles themselves had a really good chew and were cooked perfectly. Photo: The jjamppong had a nice level of heat, perfectly cooked noodles, and a generous amount of seafood and vegetables. Photo: The fried rice was a bit too oily for my taste, but nicely presented covered in a thin omelet. Photo: The kimchi and danmuji were standard fare: The overall combo was just a little bit above $ 10 before tax. Very reasonable considering the amount of food provided. Service was surprisingly helpful and friendly given how crowded it was. Overall the combos are reasonably priced, and reasonably tasty.

I’m giving Ddoo Gau Bee 3.5 stars. Their small side dishes are mediocre, but the reason I like this place is because you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg for a variety of Korean, Korean style Chinese food and Japanese food. Seriously, their combination platters and specials allow my fiancée and I to eat about 5 different things for less than $ 30 dollars. If we usually go to a Korean place and dine for 2, we never leave without spending over $ 50 and we can only get 2 – 3 things. Now I can get soondooboo, kalbi, noodles, fried rice(and sushi!) without having to invite a whole party! Sweeeeet…

Super fun place to go eat and not spend too much money. nothing is out of this world but everything is solid. i thought the mandu was really good and it was like 2 bucks. jampong is a favorite of mine and their noodles were the best but the soup was good. combo with jaja, jampong, tangsookyok was like $ 24 which was a steal.

The popularity of this place confuses me. Its a korean-chinese-japanese fusion style restaurant. Very authentically korean though. I’ve had very similar food in korea and was pleasantly surprised that this kind of food was available here in Canada. This place confuses me though because its really not very good food. Its alright and decently priced for korean food. But some of my friends really really like it here. But for me, its kinda meh.

Possibly the best casual Korean Restaruant(not BBQ restaurant) Coming to Ddoo Gau Bee was possibly by chance. The first time I came here was with my friend and it was due to the funny name that provoked it. Ended up the randomness ended up in satisfaction. The food here is CHEAP and I mean VERY affordable. It is even cheaper than food court prices in a RESTAURANT!!! The food here is standard, but very creative. There are many dishes with duets which features two types of noodles in a single divided bowl. I would definitely recommend their special Japanese rolls as they are WAYYYYYY cheaper than eating at Japanese Izakayas and of the same quality. The service here is standard of asian establishments, but the servers do try their best to communicate with me(using the finger and pointing usually is the best way!!!) This place is awesome and I would sometimes drive 30+ km from Richmond to Coquitlam just to eat at Ddoo Gau Bee!!!

Four stars for the value for what you get. This place serves both Korean and Japanese food as well as some of their own Korean/Chinese and Korean/Japanese fusion dishes. The food quality ranges from average to pretty good. It’s a great place to go if you can’t decide on Korean or Japanese or want both and if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg with the many specials they have to offer.

Was here with my Korean bf and I have no idea what he ordered. Whatever it was, it was huge. On one side for both or dishes was the black bean noodle, which was okay. I’ve definitely had better. The other side was this noodle in spicy soup, which was also okay. His other side was this fried rice covered with a thin fried egg, I found it really oily. Everything was okay, nothing outstanding though. We also had a side of the spicy deep fried dumplings/gyoza maybe? which weren’t bad. I would come back and try some of their other dishes cause the entire meal was very inexpensive.

As most Korean restaurants go, this place gives huge portions and it’s cheap cheap cheap! Wait, did I mention cheap?! Because it is and the people love it so you’ll never be the lone person eating in the restaurant listening to the echo of your own chew. How awkward is that?! Located in «Korea Town», Ddoo Gau Bee also offers Japanese food. Yeah, you hear me: JAPANESEFOOD! I write in caps because as a Japanese and Korean food lover and a lover of cheap food… this place rocks my socks. That being said, the food isn’t spectacular. Actually, it’s less than spectacular but you get what you pay for and it’s worth every penny! I usually get a combo including Jajangmyun(Korean black bean paste noodle) and it’s not the greatest as far as Korean food goes but I still usually eat most of it because again, the portions are reasonably big and my tummy can’t fit everything in it… although I wish it could. The sushi is alright too. So, if you like cheap food and aren’t too picky with how it tastes then this is your go-to for Korean/Japanese food!
