There is nothing like a good hotpot to warm you up on a winter’s day. The idea of dipping all your meats, vegetables and noodles into a boiling hot broth is one of the simplest, but yet popular forms of eating in Asian cuisine. Few years ago, I was with one of my classmates to tryout Firepots for the first time. I ordered myself a form of Beef«fondue.» which had some form of premium«melt in your mouth» beef, onions, carrots, cauliflower. It was as if I was not having a hot pot and was having a beef stew in a hot pot. The beef was very tender, no question about it. The vegetables were fresh and all and honest to god, I was wondering. Who was the person with the idea to put beef gravy in a hot pot(or beef stock i should say, though it was a bit thick) and serve it in a hot pot. It is one of those weird ideas, but I did not think it will come up well with the general public. 3 years later… I am glad they did not put the beef fondue hot pot on the menu. +.5 star for giving a free ice tea when they admit no one would ever make it and they ended up doing it anyways for her.

Ordered the coconut chicken curry and the stay beef hot pot. We were given the option to have the food traditionally served(raw and outside of the hotpot) or In the pot cooked. We chose traditional. Overall the food was good but nothing special. The curry based was very strong and the smell lingered on our clothes after. The stay beef was not bad but again, nothing special. The décor was nice and the atmosphere was aimed to attract a younger crowd. We had to ask for basics like spare chopsticks to handle raw food and a side dish for sauce. We also didn’t get the food nets that you usually get for hot pot not game changers but something that was expected.

My wife and I come here every so often, as it’s a great place for a healthy meal. I love the concept of individual hot pots, so I don’t have to negotiate with others(Communal hot pot). Do set aside a good chunk of time, since cooking your own hot pot and savouring the ingredients can take some time. I’d also recommend the gyozas. The place has definitely done better since they reopened. I just wish there was more in the way of drink options.

I love this place! Its super cute and a great place for a relaxing meal or a family get together. The service is really nice and they have awesome drinks to choose from in their full bar. Be sure to try their shots and anything with lychee. Basically the idea is you have a personal hotpot of broth of your choice in which you dip various meats and vegetables into. You can also get seafood options. Whatever your dietary needs are, you will be happy. My favorite item to get are the mushrooms, especially enokis. Don’t skip out on dessert — their chocolate fondue is to die for(both light and dark). There is lots of parking around the area as well as lots of shopping options as well. Everything is pretty decent with this place and the prices are resonable. Looking forward to coming back.

Clean, nice staff, healthy hot pot. Fun to cook yourself at your table. Good prices and doesn’t stink like other hot pot places. Always dead though

Loved the beef satay hot pot in a snack size, perfect amount of food so you don’t feel too stuffed and for a great price of a little under 10 $. The soup base was very flavorful and tasty compared to lots of other places I have tried, firepots is my favorite. I tried the gyoza as well because there was a 15% off deal for gyoza, the reason I give 4 stars and not 5 was because it was cold… but still it tasted good. Friendly knowledgeable service as well. I will be back!

Really enjoyed my dinner here. No, it’s not super traditional hot pot, but it’s nice having your own pot and getting to customize your meal separate from anyone else’s. I found the service really good… our waitress didn’t constantly harass us, but she was attentive enough. I missed having the garlic oil as a sauce option. I thought the ambience was great. I’d come back.

Although the broth tasted very good, this place was severely lacking in variety and charged for every little thing compared to other individual hot pot places I’ve been to. It only came with meat and some broccoli, bok choy, lettuce, and mushrooms. The portions were not very big either. If you didn’t like part of the combos they had, they would charge for creating your own which you had to pay individually for soup, meat, vegetables, noodles, and sauce.

I came here with some colleagues for lunch. Our intention was to eat hot pot(but for those people who want a la carte items they also have a good selection of those too). I was going to go for a $ 15 hot pot but my skinny friend saw the snack size, which goes for $ 9, so I copied her, as I had snacked on almonds right before, and it was substantial! The beef flavour was the one I ordered. I’m a fan of those thin white mushrooms(ENOKI) and the hot pots all came with those. I am a girl who loves eating a lot! But I found the snack size great for a lunch session. I would go back, even though my clothes felt a bit greasy, the food was reasonably portioned and the prepared the pot in an average time. :)

Seems I may have waited too long before heading to this restaurant. Finally got there this weekend and it appears their commitment to quality has waned since some of the orginal reviews. Love hot pots, love the entertainment value of self cooking and healthy dining is always appealing. Service was at best indifferent to the diners, lots of standing around behind the bar staring at the TV. For a menu based around cooking your food in flavored soup/stock it should be apparent that flavor would be crucial. We tried two different hot pots, neither had flavor. I can’t be critical of the taste as there simply wasn’t any. Save yourself the time and trip, stay home and throw some meat and veggies in a pot of boiling water.

This restaurant did not hit my hot pot spot. And I love traditional hot pots. My main disappointment stemmed from a few things: 1. There was no service. Every time we needed drinks or to order, we had to flag someone down. My friend and I were also the only occupied table in the restaurant. 2. The quality just wasn’t there. I ordered the satay beef hot pot with a side of rice. The hot pot came with uncooked beef and a plate of veggies. There were veggies I would have opted out of if I was asked. The soup stock just didn’t have enough flavour and tasted a bit watered down. The rice was hard and I could tell it was not freshly cooked that night. It wasn’t even warm rice. 3. The price, for what I got, was not worth it. It is a good experience if you never tried hot pot and wanted a personal size dish, but I would not go back again.

Atmosphere was good, but the food was nothing special. The sauce was horrendous and meat was not up to par at all. I would recommend them try new sauces because having good sauce makes the shitty hotpot better !!

We have been here a couple of times and have been pleased each time. You get your own individual firepots where you can cook your own protein, veggie amd starch. Good flavours and there are specials every day. Service is always friendly, and the kids like the novelty of their own pot. We’ll be back!

Ordered a few different items, the gyoza tasted stale(could have been the sauces). The food took for ever to arrive. The curry broth was filled with turmeric … Not recommended. Most probably won’t come back here. Friendly staff ! The only thing I liked was the fried rice from the tapas menu!

Friendly staff, attentive service and bussing, good appetizers(gyozas and cashew chicken wings were tastier than our hot pots), and huge servings for their hot pots. If you order a hot pot all to yourself, you probably won’t fit in anything else. Go with a friend and share the hot pot if you want to have anything else at all there(like appys and drinks). Maybe they’ll change it later, but their spiciness/heat warnings were ludicrous. Coconut curry barely qualified as Mildly spicy. Tasty enough, though. 30% off appys during Happy Hour, hot pot + beer special during late-night.

I’ve come twice this week because it’s getting chilly outside and this is just the answer. I love coming here because they have individual hot pots, which is perfect for me because I am vegetarian. I also like things really spicy, so I can spice up my pot as much as i like without upsetting anyone. They have sophisticated drinks, appies, and desserts(fusion). Their broths are yummy, and their portions are a very nice size. I love the dips they have to offer for their hot pots as well.

Had an amazing experience here at Firepots! Giving this place a flat 4 stars. The food is great, the atmosphere is perfect, and the service was stunning. The Food: It’s not bad, but a lot needs to be fixed up, like serving wise. They use SOMANYPLATES for just 1 hot pot. I think it’s just redundant, and there are just so many plates that I will never ever use again, and they just waste water washing it. I don’t mind paying the price for it, but it is a little bit expensive since it is located Willingdon X Lougheed area. But, I’ll let it slide for now since the area is getting better soon. The atmosphere is not bad, except the furniture sucks. The tables are not properly sized to the booths,(your thighs keep on hitting them), and the bar stools suck. I can see one day a customer falling off of it. I love the colour sense and the theme. So points for there, and a full bar, aww yeah. The service is in tip top shape. So I am happy, and guy waiter there is hot. Yes I was satisfied all night. Don’t mind me: P But the girl waitress was very attentive, and always on her toes. She was polite and kind to the whole table. Had a great experience, will go again if the place fixes itself up a bit.

I wasn’t very impressed with Firepots. I definitely do not recommend going here for lunch unless you have a substantial amount of time to sit around listening to your stomach grumble. There were two staff(one back end and one front end) to deal with four small tables. We waited for an hour for our food to arrive. Seriously though, this is hot pot. They bring you a pot of broth and some chopped up veggies and raw meat and you cook it yourself. They offer a few different options for broth, starch, vegetable, and protein. You can mix and match or chose from the set menu. We ordered a variety of different items on the menu and none were over the top amazing. The fact is the hot pot served at mom and pop shops in Taiwan is far superior.
