Zombies work here. No personality and one older white female helper seemed very sarcastic and rude… pity, because it’s a big place with lots of cool plants. They just need to change the client service people.

Can’t believe how big this place is! I always go to the North Van store which is great but small. Perfect for the city though. Unfortunately the Marine Drive location was out of stock of the pots I wanted to get. Will have to go back to the North Van one The varieties and options are vast. TI enjoyed my visit and definitely didn’t leave empty handed. The store is clean and well maintained and staff around to help out whenever you need it. I’m looking forward to my next visit already!

Since I have an obsession with plants, flowers, and all the knicknacks and home décor that can be bought at a Garden store, I decided to lunch at the small café located within GardenWorks at Mandeville just off of Marine Drive in Burnaby. The café set up was different than I thought it would be. We went up to a counter to order our food, were provided with a number, paid, and then had to choose a table where we wanted to sit. The staff at the counter seemed quite disorganized, and weren’t super knowledgeable about the food, so I was a little worried at what the final outcome of the entire experience was going to be. Once we paid for our meal, we opted to sit outside on the patio rather than inside, as the seating area inside was really warm and stuffy. The setting outside was really nice with large umbrellas for shade, small fountains, and lots of plants(my kind of patio dining!) Our food came out quite quickly, which was nice since we both were on a lunch break, and the portions were great for lunchtime. We had the following: Butter Chicken Panini with House salad Turkey Brie and Cranberry sauce panini on toasted cranberry bread with home made mushroom soup. (foodporn pictures attached + an interior picture + some pretty flowers for my fellow fresh flower addicts out there:)) The food was delicious!!! I was pleasantly surprised how great it actually was since I was a bit skeptical from the ordering experience. Everything was great once we had food. The only two things I would say need improvement are the following: — Train the staff at the counter a little bit better to be more informed about the food, how much upgrades are, etc… — Provide ice for the self serve water station. It was really hot yesterday, and the luke warm water that came from the tap didn’t help so much in keeping me cool. I asked for ice and it was provided no problem, but I’m sure others would appreciate not having to ask for ice every time.

love this place. It’s just so lush and green, and it part of the reason why I even bothered to put any plants on my forlorn balcony.

Plant Nursery/Garden Centre is and oasis on Marine Drive Road between Vancouver and New West. Visited on rainy hoilday Monday to look around. My visit was full of colour with so many healthily plants and flowers in bloom.(see photos) They have large well stocked location so give youself at least 45 min to look around there is no need to rush your visit. They have a coffee shop/café on site and a florist that has a large walk in cooler which they encourage customers to explore. GardenWorks has the concept of retailtainment down.

So I totally have a brown thumb but this year I was feeling exceptionally green and decided to give this gardening business one more try. Having very little knowledge of what these plants where or how to keep them alive, I continued on pretending to look like I knew what I was talking about while my husband looked on. Initially I was a little intimidated by the shear number of plants that they had to offer, not to mention all their nifty garden gear but I felt right at home as their cat«boyfriend» greeted us with licks, purrs and demands for belly scratching. Owen found us lost amongst the vine plants and gave us excellent advice and insight into what we should look for. He suggested a «Green Tea» plant and thankfully talked us out of the Kiwi plant! With our new purchase in hand I was thrilled to discover that if you buy a plant and a pot from GardenWorks, they will plant it in the pot for you, for free! If your living in an apartment this an excellent option, not to mention it also saves you the fear of killing the plant if your as terrible of a gardener as myself! Heidi planted our new addition for us and even suggested putting herbs in around the pot, which she also planted for us. Heidi gave us priceless information on what all gardeners know from Birth…(Ya I’m feeling a bit like a pro at this point) and gave us the low down on easy care tropical plants and what to do if we have a fly problem! I am so thrilled with our new«patio garden» that I cannot wait to return to GardenWorks to add some fabulous plants to our lush garden!

Can I just say that Gardenworks has taken my black thumb to green. This past fall I bought a little Fat Albert that I will be keeping on my balcony until Christmas, at which time I will have my own life Christmas tree with out the cost and dying nettles. When I went to purchase, I got just the PERFECT tree and all the good, sound advice a tree/plant novice like me needs. I was also able to come back a week later to pick it up. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They also know how to detatch me from my money!!!

Don’t miss out on the small but yummy restaurant at this location. I often meet people here for lunch then do some garden shopping before or after. The rose selection here is good, try to visit in early spring for bare-root roses too!

Mandeville has been bought out by Gardenworks. It’s OK, though, I wouldn’t know the difference. This place is vast, has a lot of space, and even has a restaurant with a fireplace. Though I went when the restaurant was closed, and thus, the fireplace wasn’t on. Boo. What did I buy here… ah! Honey Eucalyptus. Didn’t even know I needed it.

There are TWO things for sure I can count on in this crazy life to bring me comfort and peace… ONE-taking an afternoon nap and TWO– going to Mandeville garden’s!!! I was there this past weekend, looking for plants and after perusing the grounds I was imagining all the possibilities I could have on my 80 square foot balcony in sky, I noticed something very unusual, or rather refreshing I should say. Nobody at the garden centre seemed to be unhappy, everyone was smiling, children were picking out a hanging basket of bleeding hearts for their mum for mother’s day(bleck), and most of all the associates were pleased to offer assistance. Could I be dreaming? is this truly the happiest place on earth?(next to Disney land) I then began to fantasize about what it would be like to work at a place like this, would I want to be in charge of the herbs, or would I be the guy who pruned all the lavender plants? I bet I would work in the shrub department, or even better yet I think I would simply help people out to their car with their treasures! ha! .ok seriously I think all the oxygen was getting to me. how could you ever be unhappy surrounded by plants! the end.
