Time for everyone to boycott this store. For those people who have kids and bring them to grocery shopping, be very careful. I know a mother personally who brought a 6 month old with her. She tried to refund a shake she bought and to no avail. Then she did her grocery shopping, paid everything and decided to leave. Upon leaving her kid has accidently hold a 5 dollar toy in his hand, and the security went over claiming she shop-lifted. The manager and security then detained her at the back-office for over 4 hours not letting her contact anyone until the police shows up. The police showed up and know it was just an honest mistake that often happens for families with kids, and let her go. But still her criminal record now has a permanent mark, she was detained for over 4 hours alone with her 6 months old! Is this the kind of business we want in a neighborhood? Please vote with your wallet. There are many much better, small, family-run groceries that actually treat customers as humans instead of criminals.

Like most supermarkets, it’s large, bright, well-laid out, and an easy place to browse and shop. But like it’s former PriceSmart self, at this same location, it’s just another ‘new type’ supermarket, where most stuff and such(including fresh meats, seafoods, and the like) is pre-wrapped, packaged, and pricey. The produce section offers fruits, veggies, and other produce at some of the highest prices to be found in the area. I had hoped having this supermarket in our neighbourhood would afford some competition(at least amongst the supermarkets) … sadly, at least for my needs, it really does not. I shop there for some of the ‘weekly specials’ only — at times, these can be worth the walk to shop there.

They re-branded the PriceSmart as Save-On Foods. There’s very little difference other than signage. Same products, same prices, same discount card. In any case, I still like this store. Everything is well-organized, the staff are friendly and helpful and their selection has enough variety to appease my desire to try out new things. The sometimes-on lights they use in their freezer section is a little annoying as they seem to turn on a second or two too late. If I don’t stop at a particular section, they’ve already lost their opportunity to showcase the product inside. I’m sure this is an energy saving function but they need to adjust the motion detectors’ to catch me a couple steps sooner.
