Compared to isami sushi and sushi garden, this joint’s Chirashi Don was the absolute best. I thought the rice would be hard cold, but their large sashimi pieces topped on their steaming warm rice just makes me want to go again. Why this restaurant has a 3.5 rating is way beyond me. Definitely deserve a 4 and above.

I came here looking for a sushi place near by Metrotown seeing that the Japanese restaurants were pact. I wasn’t that impressed with the restaurant though it was quite busy since it was lunch time. My friends ordered the lunch special while I ordered the Rainbow Roll. It took 10 mins for the waitress to hand us our menus and drinks and 30 mins for the food to come out. I would say that the food isn’t bad nor good but come here if you have time seeing that the service is slow. I did cut her some slack because there was only one waitress though I did find it cramped and wouldn’t recommend for a big group of friends. I also found it absurd for Koreans to own a sushi place but they were doing an okay job at it.

Honestly was underwhelmed by the food. The portions were huge which was nice but the ramen was not great. The mango roll I had was delicious but kept falling apart. Much like the dynamite roll. Gomae was good and the service was quick and pleasant. It wouldn’t be my first choice for a return visit but I wouldn’t outright avoid it.

The food here is really good, but the service isn’t good at all. The first time I came here I thought it would be my new go to, but after coming back a few more times, I don’t think it’s worth it. They have a solid menu with many options for sushi, sashimi, udon and many other staples. The special rolls are really good(a little on the spice side). Only been here for dinner but it looks like they have a very affordable lunch option. Come here if you have some time as the service is quite slow.

This place is my favorite sushi place! The price is cheap, the service is always efficient and friendly. If you love mangoes, you need to try their Mango Roll. It is made with cream cheese and is so yummy. We get take out from here so often that the staff recognizes my boyfriend’s voice the second he calls and knows his order by heart(The Elliot Special). Every now and then they throw in free miso soup or salad to our order. Thanks, Yakko!

Owned and operating by Korean and Yakko has been in the same location for 10+ years, it’s ambiance is way better than Sushi Garden, at least you have some privacy inside the booth and the food presented is quite delicate, and yummy of course :)* They also provide more choices from appetizer, sushi, sashimi, tempura, ramen to box combo and dessert… Service is warm, friendly, attentive with lots of smile… Price wise I consider it is very fair… Seriously I would have given a four rating because the men’s room is pretty messy(good they have separate M&F washrooms); but I decided to bring up to five for their consistancy of food & service…

Was craving sushi and decided to stop by here. Service was fast and the sushi was great! I’m from Calgary and I’m seriously picky about seaweed not being chewy and normally that’s hard to find but so far I haven’t had bad sushi in Vancouver. Anyways, very reasonalbly priced with good veggie options!

Their beef udon is the best udon I’ve ever had. The smoked salmon California roll, spicy salmon and beef roll are really good.

A nice lunch place. Neighborhood sushi place. Nothing too fancy however as this is family own small business I like their service. Their lunch special on bento box is very affordable and a big portion. Wait time for Take out is usually 10 to 15 min.

If all your taste buds work, do not go here. I was craving some hot ramen and sushi so I went to his place on my lunch break since it’s on the same block as my office. I actually feel personally offended that some other Unilocalers are giving this restaurant good reviews… are you guys seriously that dense? I tried to order the miso ramen, and was told they only had spicy korean ramen. I asked what kind of vegetables that came with, and the waitress pointed to a picture on the wall and said«you can see right there what kind of vegetables». No vegetables you would normally find in a JAPANESE ramen. So I ordered the korean ramen and then she told me the chef had miso ramen so I went with the miso. I ordered negitoro roll and chopped scallop roll, both were okay. Not great, but no complaints. Their cans of soda(I ordered a diet pepsi) are expired. I know this because I looked at the expiry date at the bottom of the can. I’m almost 99% sure they don’t know that soda even expires. I overlooked this though as it is a small restaurant that is obviously family operated. When my miso ramen arrived, I got a big bowl of soggy noodles. Barely any vegetables. NOMEAT. JUSTNOODLESANDBROTH. The broth was bland and tasteless, I probably would’ve been better off ordering a regular miso soup and adding my noodles to that because whatever they use for their miso ramen broth has no flavor to it. The noodles were NOT ramen noodles — which are generally a little bit curly, not too thick, not too thin, and have a chew to them. These noodles were thicker, straight, and overcooked(which ends up being a soft disgusting texture in your mouth with no bite to them). I was so pissed that when I went to pay, I told the waitress they really should not be serving that and even though it tasted like garbage I would still pay for it. When I saw the bill, instead of $ 5 like the rest of the ramens are priced at, mine was $ 7. When I asked the waitress what was up with that, she said miso ramen is a little more expensive. WHY? FORNOODLESANDBROTH? WHY? Ridiculous. I was SO pissed at this point that I actually asked the waitress if they were even Japanese. USUALLY I do not do this at any Japanese restaurant, she told me they were Korean. Maybe they should stick to making Korean food, cuz the crap they’re serving and calling Japanese food is disgusting.

My go to place in the neighbourhood. They use good quality seaweed for their rolls and makes a huge difference. Have been happy for years here!

A pleasant surprise! Don’t be deterred by the«Take Out» in their name! Forgot Sushi Garden, walk a few doors down and go here instead! You won’t regret it! The restaurant is tiny, but super cozy and quaint! The seating booths are sectioned off, with boards in the middle, so you can dine in privacy, which is perfect for awkward people like me hahaa Like the other reviewers said, the Yakko lunch box is great value! You get to pick your items and each bento comes with a free miso soup! I went with the chicken kaarage, cali roll, beef teriyaki, and salad. All the items were tasty and well portioned. Service was awesome as well! The girl serving me was really friendly and came back to check on me during my meal. Overall, I had a great lunch at Yakko! I might even consider making them my new default sushi place near Metrotown haha

I haven’t been to yakko in ages. The location under station square is closed. This location on Kingsway is now their only one. I used to frequent yakko when I was working nearby. Their prices for California combo has gone up from $ 8.99 to $ 10.99 now. There’s something about their California rolls that makes it yummier than the rest I’ve had at other places. Fish remains fresh and portions are generous. Sushi garden is only few doors down from the street. If only yakko had more roll variety…

Savvy Unilocaler ALERT! Cheap and cheerful. Yakko is above average value for money. The lunch special for $ 8.95 is killer value. The family that runs this small business works very hard to serve quality sushi at a fair price with good service. Better service than other comparable sushi restaurants. There is so much hype about the competition on this stretch of Kingsway that people seem to have over looked this gem. Although, unusual for a sushi restaurant, there is a dessert menu that’s fun to explore. Also, if you have never tried sushi before there are a number of approachable choices for sushi first timers. I call it gateway sushi. I have taken kids ages 14 to 55 here and everyone enjoys the food. Some of my favourites: The huge Beef Don $ 7.(share it) Hawaiian Dynamite roll $ 5. The Lobster and Chop $ 10 King Crab Cali roll is $ 7 Alaska Roll $ 5.95 Itadakimasu! J

What do you do when after catching a movie at Metrotown, you want a quick and hassle free sushi dinner across the street? The answer is NOT going to line up behind 20 other people at Sushi Garden. The smart diner’s choice is to come to Yakko’s instead, which is just 5 shops away. For $ 6.95(valid Mon-Thurs. all day, +$ 1.50 on weekends) I ordered the Yakko Bento Box, which comes with 1) salad 2) chicken karaage 3) Your choice of one of the following: California roll, 3 piece sashimi or 3 pieces nigiri sushi, and 4) Your choice of one of the following: chicken/beef/salmon teriyaki, or assorted tempera. Great value, and tasty too! Portions are just right. You won’t be stuffed, but you won’t be hungry either. They also have 2 roll specials for $ 6.95. We tried the spicy salmon(salmon had a weird texture, but the sashimi was fine) and yam roll combo. Yakko’s, I will be back!

This is hands down my favorite little sushi haunt in Burnaby. The family who runs the place are sweet, diligent and hard working. We have been given complimentary appetizers numerous times as a surprise. The food is always well done. Everything is tasty and prepared quickly. The food is not wildly original, donburi, sushi and similar, but everything is tasty and well made. Music is pleasant and not loud, and the place is well lit and clean. We do come back, often, and we bring friends and family all the time.

This place is great! I came here with my boyfriend and another couple for sushi since they had been here before and enjoyed it. This restaurant is located across the street from Metrotown, and it was nice and quiet for 6pm at night. We received tea as soon as we sat down, and our order was taken quickly. The server was really friendly, and gave us a round of miso soup for free, which was unexpected. She also came around and refilled our water and tea glasses multiple times throughout the meal. For our meal, we shared six different sushi rolls, vegetable tempura, and another appetizer I can’t remember. It wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had in my life, but it was pretty good. The entire meal came to $ 46, which wasn’t too bad considering the amount of food we ordered. I would definitely come back here again.

Food came fast, I tend to avoid mall-location food places for quality issues. Took a while to get my order taken and bill to come though, otherwise it would have been 4 stars. I don’t do raw fish sushis, but the unagi I had there was tasty(I have to order this pretty much everywhere I go, has to be my favorite ever). Miso soup was ok, I’ve had better.

Really fresh fish! The Spicy tuna sashimi was the best I ever had that I had to order two orders! All the other sushi items were delicious too! They were really good about avoiding cross contamination with salmon. I really enjoyed my experience here. I highly recommend it. Heck, I need to go back there soon!
