Quite disappointed in my last visit at Abercrombie and Fitch. Like Adam B. pointed out, you can literally smell the store from the other side of the mall. I know studies have shown how scents can affect our purchasing decision and smelling the Axe spray ladened armpit of a teenager isn’t convincing me to pull out my wallet. What happened to you A & F? I remembered how 10 years ago, my shopping trips to the states were topped off by picking up clothes at your stores. How I stocked up on your cool and laid back clothing that I didn’t feel bad about having shelled out my month’s wages. Yes I know I was a pubescent teen 10 years ago but still, I didn’t think you were this lame and pretentious then. Ooo did I really have to use those words? Yes I did! Considering on boxing day A&F deployed shirtless I-just-turned-18 boys(who I felt like handing out copies of Fight Club to) to take pictures with teenyboppers at the front of the store rather than hiring enough staff to ensure their stock was laid out for the hundreds of shoppers who blew past the meat display. Did I just become an advocate against the objectification of men? Not really considering I was just at Victoria secret’s opening months ago. What?! I was on my lunch break!!! Oh yeah –4 stars for exuberant prices, get with the exchange rate and times man!

Abercrombie and Fitch is located in the main floor of Chinook Mall. Once in the mall just close your eyes and follow the smell of their perfume that wafts from the store. A & F has been around for years. I remember being at the West Edmonton Mall in 1985 and buying up their ubber-preppy, somewhat expensive clothing. Wham, Deck shoes, Sperry Top Siders, collars up on your shirts and pea-coats. It’s all come back(except for Wham). Giant black and white posters of lovely sexy bodies adorn the walls of the store and their moose logo is incorporated throughout. Pre-pubescent shaped mannequins are dressed with the already low-cut tops unbuttoned exactly the same way throughout the store. Let’s get those kids exposing more skin! Not sure if they’re promoting sluttiness or skin cancer. Sorry, that’s the Mom in me coming out. The store has much more lighting than their sister, Hollister does but is still lacking in change room facilities. Do they really think that forcing their customers to wait in line ups, is going to make them enjoy their shopping experience there?! Price tags show both USA prices as well as Canadian prices which vary greatly. Makes me want to pack an empty bag and go shopping in the US. The fabrics used in the clothing is high quality. Very soft knits with lots of stretch. Just don’t try to fit a big adult into their teeny clothing. This stuff is meant for the teen-very young adult crowd who don’t mind strutting around with giant logos on their chests. Unlike ‘The Situation’, A&F doesn’t have to pay me, not to wear their clothes. A & F clad cashier clones, push the brand by telling everyone to ‘Like us on Facebook’. They are marketing masters at work.

First you smell it. The store that is… From a distance of about 10 metres out front you can smell this store… its crazy… the smell of mens and women colognes… I found it a bit sickening. This store is located on the ground floor of the Chinook expansion. These stores are pretty much the same all over the world. Once you go in, its dark and moodily lit. Its like you are in a sexy living room filled with oversize pictures of attractive people(the kind I would never have the courage to date) while you are in this sexy living room ignore the piles of clothes everywhere. There are also a series of little rooms everywhere with clothing tucked away here and there. When I was in today, they had some really good sales on. Even on sale, their clothes are not cheap, but I have to say that the quality is excellent. Abercrombie and Fitch is not the place I would shop for all my clothes(mainly becuause I a cant afford it) but i am glad that they are here in Calgary now.
