As someone who has shopped at The Gap my whole life I felt I need to say just how bad my recent trip there was. I have been wanting a pair pants they have for the past few weeks and was pleasantly surprised to see them on a 40% off rack when I went to pick them up today at lunch. I was getting them anyways so the sale was just a nice additional surprise. To be clear, the rack was just this one particular type of pants. There were no other items on this 40% off rack. Several staff members saw me pick a few sizes up to try on yet no one acknowledged me, offered advice or asked to start me a room. This isn’t a big deal for me as I know where the rooms are and was happy to set myself up. I found a a pair that fit great and went off to the cash register. When I got up to the front and my pants were rung through I saw that they weren’t 40% off. I asked why they were on a rack that advertised 40% off and the salesperson agreed with me, it was very confusing. He turned to who I am guessing was his manager at the next register to ask what the deal was and if there was anything he could do. After the manager ignored him twice, he finally turned to me and said«You need to read the fine print. Only tanks are 40% off». His tone was rude, dismissive and I was beyond embarrassed in front of the others waiting to pay. I completely understand reading the fine print, I love to shop, but why put items on a sale rack if they aren’t on sale. Nothing on that rack was on sale so why attach a sign there in the first place? The whole thing seemed extremely misleading. It wasn’t about the cost or sale or lack thereof in the end. It was about feeling like and being treated like a moron from by the store manager in front of other customers. I will never shop at The Gap again. You hear about The Gap going downhill and I always stood by the brand but now I have to agree with how awful it has become. It really is a shame, I used to love shopping there.
