I love this little store. When I moved to Mission a couple of years ago, I decided to check out all the little stores and wandered in. I loved it. The store is an eclectic mix of fun items(alot from the FRED line), cool cards, and everything else in between. Everytime I go in, I am warmly acknowledged by the lady behind the counter, and always feel a sense that my patronage is valued. Its fun to pop into this store on a saturday or sunday and mill over the items in there. I have purchased some great cards — as well as some silly stuff, like my bouncing dashboard monk, salt and pepper wands, and a laser gun key ring. They also have a good selection of Vegetarian and Vegan cookbooks, which means bonus points in my book! All in all, i love this little store and I hope that it continues to serve the Mission community for many more years to come.

Krickets, it’s cute. It’s that kind of store that’s full of all forms of lovely little trinkets. Cards, purses, scarves, hats, books and other accessories, you can’t help but spend a few minutes perusing its contents. Though it’s cute, it’s not unlike other fun gift trinket stores in Calgary. Though we received a «thank you and goodbye» when we were headed out the door, the man behind the counter did no more than look up up briefly when we entered. Twenty minutes gone by, no hello or help offered. I get many people may come through to browse, but it’s that extra touch, that interaction with a customer that would bump it from a three to a four star.

When I went into Krickets today, I made a bold declaration. I wouldn’t want to be friends with anyone that I couldn’t buy a gift for from this incredibly unique store. There are cool gifts tucked into every corner of this tiny shop in Mission. And the best thing is that you’ll rarely see the same thing twice. So if you see it, buy it. You probably won’t ever find it again. Not that I’m interested, but they also have a great selection of cool looking purses that the girls seem to drool over. Make sure you head to the backroom. That’s where you can find so many great cards and of course, the discount shelf. I’ve never met a discount shelf that I didn’t like. If you are looking for a fun, original and creative gift, make sure you go to Krickets first!

I have purposely avoided this store simply because of its name. You see my cousin has this annoying parrot named Kricket who has what I believe an interior motive of killing me or at least driving me crazy. I will be watching TV alone at their home and he will appear within earshot chirping«what are you doing» scares the living SHYTE out of me. With that said, I thought to put aside my name discrimination and enter the store. What I found was a wonderful eclectic gift shop, journals, greeting cards, jewellery, hats, etc. But the most appealing thing is this wild selection of peculiar and outrageously funny gift items. For example: Books amongst titled«What’s my pee telling me book?» and«How to live with my large penis»(for my silly cousin for sure). A «Psycho Shower Curtain» with a silhouette of a knife stabber, a «Talk to the Hand» notepad of paper shaped like a hand. «Designer tea spoons» where you can open the spoon part and insert tea leaves, a «Drinking Roulette» with shooter glasses at each roulette terminal; looks very fun(perhaps for me). Dashboard Jesus and Buddha with the bobbing head(again another present for me). A variety of ice cube trays, A «Hip Hopsicle Tray» one with shapes of mikes, blasters and cassettes and a «Create a Commi» etch a sketch. This store is hilarious and as I pride myself in being the funniest person I know; I know now where to shop for Xmas. Prices are cheap too; from $ 7 to $ 20 for these gimmicky items.

I’m not even sure what this place specializes in, but there was a giant rack full of purses and bizarre hats in the store, along with weird candles. I found a book in there called«A pocket guide to mischief» or something like that, that promises you new ways to agitate and otherwise alienate people while having a laugh at their expense. It looked like a useful book… I guess Krickets specializes in off-beat stuff like scarves and wallets and funny magnets. And they have a tremendous selection of greeting cards in the back with some you couldn’t find at more traditional card stores. It also seems like a popular place with women.
