I was on a recent business trip to attend the Global Petroleum Show at The Stampede. My co-worker and I shared one of the suites. It had two completely separate bedrooms, each with a bathroom and a common Kitchenette and Living room. Very nice, comfortable and quiet. The reason I feel compelled to Unilocal this place is because of the staff. In particular, Sharon, who seems to always be at the hotel. Here’s my story. I was browsing the generous breakfast offerings in search of a hard boiled egg. Everything else I needed was there but, unfortunately, no eggs that were hard boiled, only scrambled. A woman approached and asked me if she could help me find something. I asked about the eggs. She apologized and said there weren’t any today but there would be tomorrow if I was staying another night. I stayed 4 nights so told her(Sharon) that I can wait until tomorrow. She offered to make me some but I thanked her and refused, not wanting to make a fuss over an egg. I was enjoying my breakfast and reading the newspaper when I got a tap on the shoulder. Sharon made me two perfectly boiled eggs that she peeled and put into a little bowl for me. What a nice touch! I was very thankful. When you’re a couple thousand miles from home, it is the little things that seem to matter the most. Sharon made my stay at this hotel very special. I will definitely stay here again.

I really enjoy staying here. When I have friends coming into town I get them to go here. Separate bedroom. Full kitchenette. Comfortable couch with an easy to pull out bed. The pool is small but better than no pool. Jacuzzi also. For those who like a lil drinky poo at the pool, just put it in plastic abd you’re good to go. Breakfast is pretty good. Baked beans. Sausage. Make your own waffle. Hard boiled eggs. Porridge. Make your own yogurt to go with fruit and granola. They have assortment of tea and coffee. Four types of juice. English muffins. Toast and pastries muffins. The best part is it’s included in the room price and feel free to take food back to your room. They don’t scold you like other places. They also have DVDs to borrow. A snack place to purchase chips and junk. Every room comes with a popcorn bowl and complementary popcorn. The front desk is welcoming and have a bowl of fruit for guests. I love this place.

Ah, the Lakeview. I stayed here for 5 weeks while I was in Calgary for work. It really was a little home away from home. My room was a studio in the corner, so I only had windows in my living area, and none in the bed area. I was disappointed at first, but after a day or two I appreciated it because it meant my little bed nook was dark and cozy and so easy to sleep(especially since it was summer solstice and it was light out well past 10pm). My kitchen had a full fridge and freezer, cupboards with the basic kitchen stuff you need, a microwave and a little stove top(two electric burners) as well as a dishwasher. Some of the rooms have full stoves/ovens, so ask ahead of time if you’d prefer that. There wasn’t a kettle in the room. Since tea is an absolute necessity for me, and making it in the coffee machine is less than desirable, I asked at the front desk and they gave me a kettle to use for the whole month. I also asked for some dish soap and a sponge as I don’t really need to use a dishwasher for just myself. There are washing machines and dryers on most floors for a few quarters or loonies. I’m not really a big TV watcher, but if you are the TV swivels from the couch area to the bed for convenience. I spend many hours on my laptop at the desk, or at the breakfast counter. And once you hooked up to the free wifi, it was good anywhere in the hotel. The breakfasts in the morning were a pretty great start to the day. There was always coffee, juice, bread, pastries and waffles. But they changed up the hot food selection daily. The staff was great too! They treated us well. Special shout out to Cory, who worked nights. He was extra patient and nice! I soaked in the hot tub at least a few times a week. The pool was ok, not the best as it’s very shallow. They also have a teeny mini gym if you need to run on the treadmill. Location is ideal if you need to be near the airport. But it’s also accessible to downtown Calgary if you want to check it out. The hotel shuttle will take you over to the C-Train station, so you can hop on and explore the city. There is a Timmie’s right next door to the hotel, and an A&W and a Cactus Club very close by as well. I’d recommend the Lakeview for sure.

I came to stay in Calgary when I was ill and wanted a condo-like space where family and friends could come to visit me but I could also have time alone to recuperate. Each unit is self-sufficient and beautifully appointed. I stayed in a studio suite but there are much larger suites for ones with families. My friends and family who live in Calgary could not believe they had not heard of this gem before and were equally suprised at how reasonably priced it was. When I arrived for my week’s stay, the manager welcomed us in the pouring rain. Included in the price is a delicious daily breakfast and the dining staff are just fabulous. The hotel is spic and span and the housekeeping staff also are obliging and friendly. It is possible to get groceries delivered to your kitchen. There is also a small amount of sundries by the front desk. There is an indoor pool and hot tub, and a sports court outside with a BBQ for in the warmer weather. These little touches plus the popcorn in your room, the DVD players, the alarm clocks with CD players… it all combines to make you feel right at home. There is internet in each room so you can continue to work from your laptop. Both I and my family were disappointed when my trip came to an end and we had to give up our new little«vacation home». Note: Occasionally, you can smell food from other kitchen’s and this might be hard for someone if they are staying in town for medical treatment’s and have a weak stomach. A family experiencing cancer mentioned this to me; it was not an issue for me during my stay.
