yes, this place is still around! apparently the city will keep it in operation for another year, which is definitely good for me! The good points: 1. availability — you can usually get a tee time here for either of their courses 2. variety — 9 hole course, 18 hole course, driving range, putting green 3. they don’t put groups too close together like other courses(cough…shaganappi.cough) 4. it’s a relatively challenging 18 hole course, with several places for your ball to go swimming. 5. it’s a pretty long course, which in general, is good exercise if you are walking — ballpark 20k steps(thanks fitbit!) 6. the 9 hole course is great for practising your short game /bringing new golfers /kids the reasons it lost a star: 1. unreliable groundskeeping — several holes(on 18) continue to be in disrepair(over the last year!), which is a shame when you pay $ 50+ per round 2. unreliable beverage cart, they skipped us the last time we played and in general you don’t see them on the course(if you are lucky, maybe 1x per 18 holes!) 3. you are close to the airport(ie. it can be loud) /you won’t hit a plane, don’t worry regardless, I love the challenge and the exercise and will keep going back!

I am new at golf, this was the first year that I played a lot. McCall Lake was my 9 hole of choice. For a beginner the par 3 is easy enough you can have fun but still work on your game. The course is always busy, so its good to reserve as far ahead as you can if you want a specific time. The cost for a par 3 game and a push cart is about $ 20. They have the usual appropriate clothing requirements. The greens are always maintained well. There are some very short holes, 89 yards or so. There are a couple holes around water and one you have to go over water. That water one I hate, but finally rocked it the last couple times I played here. We like coming here with a couple friends and have a chill game of golf. I think this is one of the best city courses in Calgary! It is for sure worth checking out if you are new at golf, to start off the season or to spend the afternoon in the sun!
