Was visiting Calgary from Huntington Beach, California and was longing for some good craft beer. Stopped at Craft Cellars and found a nice selection and a wide variety. It was late afternoon and the shop was setting up for a wine tasting. They had a few beers on tap that we were invited to taste and we ultimately purchased several bottles based upon the manager’s recommendations. All were quite good. Enjoyed them whine in front of a roaring fire at the Jasper Park Lodge. Best we tasted while in Canada. Kudos to the Craft Cellars team.

Seeing these guys were opening up and waiting in anticipation, with a name called Craft Cellars I would have expected a great craft beer selection given the size of their location. What this really is, is a wine store with some craft beer and an aisle of spirits covering the basics. About 75% of the store is wine with the back wall covering the beer six packs and an open cooler filled with bombers. Now don’t get me wrong, they have 200, give or take, labels in the open cooler to try, but it’s just the stuff that’s standard to any craft beer store in the city. They don’t seem to have the seasonal or specialty beers(yet?). The one perk that these guys have over others is a bar where you can have a growler filled. They have a few of Last Best’s brews on tap with more to come once they get their equipment fixed. This size and type of store is exactly what the area needed. If you’re coming here for wine, you can’t go wrong.
