Stopped in here on my LYS crawl of Calgary. I was not impressed; they had tons of Cascade Yarns(made in China *gag*), along with a decent amount of Debbie Bliss. Prices were slightly higher than other stores I visited. Same with the Addi Turbos; marked to 1 – 2 more CAD than other stores. Selection I felt was mediocre; very common brands that are easily bought via . The reason for such low reviews is that I usually like picking up and supporting local dyers and brands when I travel and it makes for a great souvenir. The store person was busy chatting it up with their regular who was apparently traveling to LA to go attend a Dodgers Stitch and Pitch(tsk tsk. major brownie point loss for being a Dodger fan for the regular!). What really made them lose stars was that when I asked where the local yarns were, the staff seemed really annoyed that I was interrupting their precious conversation about Los Angeles and waved me towards a general direction. Not even knowing what brands are local or names are local I asked for a bit more clarification 10 minutes later and she told me to «figure it out yourself. they’re just over there and there.» No thanks. Never again. Maybe this place does earn their 4 and 5 star reviews from their regulars who probably enjoy knitting with Cascade and Debbie Bliss(since they had enough of that stuff until the world ends), but given their lack of service and rudeness for a non-regular, don’t bother stopping in here unless you’re BFF’s with the staff. I’d happily spend my money at Stash Lounge or at The Loop.

Pudding Yarn is delicious. Totally inedible, unless you need the fibre(ha!)… but delicious, nonetheless. They have an incredible selection of yarn, in a well laid out space that allows you to wander around, making it difficult to resist sticking your hands into each of the cubbies and groping the yarn. Like I said, delicious. The proprietor has always been friendly, though quiet. She’s extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and has made some wonderful recommendations. I’ve also found that she’s very respectful of budget, as well. They stock some wonderful bamboo knitting needles that are amazing to knit with, that are really well priced. Pudding Yarn definitely leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy.

Pudding is within walking distance of work, which is great. Well stocked and tidy, I was able to find yarn for a birthday present and addi turbos. I took some time deciding which colour to buy and was pleased not to be rushed. While searching I found wool for new zealand with possum content! Never seen that before! Will definately be back… one lunch hour a week isn’t too often is it?

I went to Pudding Yarn for the first time last week. I’d always meant to pop in and see what they had for sale. I was really pleasantly surprised! They have the best selection of fine yarns I’ve seen in Calgary, including Spud & Chloe, Noro, Debbie Bliss, Cascade, Misti, and Koigu. A veritable rainbow of beautiful yarn awaits you here, and plenty of it. The store itself is small, but that’s not unexpected for a yarn store, and it’s well-presented. I also picked up a pair of handmade Lantern Moon needles, they are fabulous. I went in expecting to get some Koigu and came out with a similar yarn in different colours because I fell in love with it. The lady who helped us(I suspect she was the owner) gave some welcome assistance in narrowing down our colour choices, and pointed us towards yarns that we could substitute for a pattern so that we had options. She was great. I have found the place in Calgary I’m going to go to for all of my yarn needs! If you haven’t had the chance, check it out, you won’t be disappointed. It’s worth driving a little further in from the ‘burbs.

Knitters are oh so very Knotty! I don’t want to throw you some yarn about this store being the place to shop for yarn but I must admit it does come pretty close. The name is yummy in itself but entering the store is even yummier, the colors, the presentation and the set up of the place makes you want to buy yarn and become a knitter. I don’t have the patience to knit, I actually do beadwork to settle my nerves but I must admit, this place has got me thinking about knitting. They have in stock great patterns for socks, gloves, toques and headgear that seem very fashionable and modern. The array of colors and textures just send you spinning into wanting to grab some needles, hibernate for the winter and start darning. Pudding yarn also offers classes to the knitting challenged and not so challenged that seem affordable and fun. The only criticism I have is the woman who was working there; she just seemed very standoffish, not the most welcoming energy when you enter the store. Which is odd since the place seems to be so whimsical and fun, a couple of stars taken off for this.

I have a new love… obsession really… with knitting. I was in Calgary and was out of yarn and starting to go into a cold sweat when I realized my hands wouldn’t be busy that evening. Thankfully, we were driving around the 17th ave area and we drove right by Pudding. I slammed on the breaks and ran in to get my fix. I had a pattern in mind for a hat and was looking for a specific wool. Not only did they have this in a variety of colours(I chose a really pretty purple!) but they also had a million other eye catching beautiful yarns. I could have spent a day in here! Thankfully my fiancé was with me to pull me out of there before out debit card took too much of a hit. I will be back.
